Yeah I heard a few days back. Absolutely sucks! I loved Andy's groove with the band. There's a discussion going on in 'Bassists' right now about it. I'm bummed because I'm seeing them in November. The new guy better groove hard!
Next question: what strings work well on an LG-5? It shipped with D'Addarios. Interestingly, the guitar tech that did my setup thinks those are about the most middle-of-the-road string around, and that DR (a frequent TB favorite and what I've got on my Sadowsky) are the most inconsistent (makes sense since they're "hand made"). So, the main candidates in my mind are:
Sadowsky blue: SS or Ni
Sad black: SS or Ni
Jimmy's own A-C: SS or Ni
DRs: Lo, Hi, ...?
D'Addario again.
I like fairly heavy strings (.130 B), they'll be roundwounds, and I love the sound Paul Turner gets on the Jamiroquoi video on the A-C site. So, with that info and an additional veritable swarming plethora of variables, do any of you have any strong feelings about one brand or model rather than another on an LG-5? Thanks.

I love all my AC's equally, but I have to thank the Heart Breaker for those tracks on myspace ... she's got that special something that shines especially well in recording that I haven't found in any other bass. Congrats on getting into N. Texas too.
Steve, I'm a big fan DR Extra Life Strings for my AC's. They're steel, but coated and run 45-125. A lot of guys knock them because they come in colors, but I use the Silver Stars which look like regular steel strings. IMO, they make the basses sound old because they're not too bright, but are still very punchy.
Bernie, Congrats on that axe bro. I get to see about 80% of the AC's before they go out, but Jimmy must've built that one while I was on tour this summer. When I saw it on here, my eyes bugged out and i was bummed that I didn't get to see her up close ... She a beauty, for sure.
For whoever asked about Kirk's old Lake Placid Blue LG5, it now resides in Brooklyn with Kevin Jenkins, bass player for Shemekia Copeland.

Thanks, Jason! It really is a great bass. I've said it over and over again but I know you all understand. Everyone that has played it really digs it. I tried to get it out and let people see it to spread the word of Jimmy's work.

Hey guys ... I almost forgot ... While at the shop yesterday, I saw a Candy Apple Orange Juice LG5 that has ended up without a home ... and ... a KPB4 that somehow made it from NYC without a home ... Somebody needs to take these babies in & show them some love !!!
Dude - tell Jimmy to post some pics of the CAOJ LG5 here in the forum. I bet it doesn't last until the end of September. Just out of curiosity ('cuz I can't buy it) what kind of bridge and fingerboard does it have? By the way Jason, LOVE the new bass!

The CAOJ has an indian rosewood board and the standard bridge.

I can tell you from experience with that bass that it is absolutely killer. I almost picked that one up but it wasn't available at the time I bought mine (which I'm totally happy with so no big deal). AWESOME tone out of those basses currently in his shop!!
If I buy that one, on top of the one I have being built and the one I currently own, I will be homeless

Just wanted to share a bit of my wonderful experience I had visiting Jimmy's new shop in Upland.
As you all know Jimmy is a great guy and it showed while I was there.
He asked me if I wanted to play an LG5 with a Dalbergia Negra board and I sat there for a while playing everything on the wall while Jimmy set everything else aside and finished up the LG5 that I ended up buying (attached the neck, setup, etc.). He asked me how I wanted it setup, what type of strings, whatever whatever, and I hadn't even committed to buying it yet. His sense of commitment to his customers and to tone was through the roof extraordinary.
While I waited they went to get something to eat and asked me if I wanted anything. I politely declined and they got me a bottle of water anyway.
Right before I left he gave me a tour of the shop. I feel like the bass coming my way is a little more special since it has a little story behind it.
His basses are the real deal and he's a great guy...what more could you ask for?

He is the man! I am glad you found something you like...I knew you would. I really wish I could get the CAOJ Dalbergia he has, I heard that is an awesome bass! Of course they all are...I should be getting my new 3 Tone Sunburst on next Tuesday and i can't wait. I would love to see pics of the stuff he has in stock for sale! I did not realize he had a KPB4 for sale as well...Maybe I should sell a couple of things and grab it! Congrats on the bass I know it will be a monster!
