Hey, the cool thing about the aesthetics of a bass is that if it looks good to you, then by definition, it looks good That bass is 'unique'

A KBP4 (nitro) trans-blonde w/ maple fingerboard

Anybody play this bass at namm?Opinions? Do you rember the nut width? Some Pics Look "C" some look "B"

IMO, of course... but.... well.......

Personally I think it looks pretty cool. I don't think it would be my first choice as I am fairly traditional when it comes to just about everything....

I've got to agree with Ken: the green striped item is not to my taste, although I'll bet it's a fine playing instrument. But, as the guy who was whining a little ways back about the looks of a maple fretboard, that white KPB-4 with white pickguard and maple looks mighty good. That may just have to be the LM-5 color scheme for me.

Lodging into the old strings debate - I put a set of DR Sunbeams on my LG-5 this week and did my normal thursday gig last night.. Im going to go against the grain and say I prefer the A-C strings that came on it.
The DR's are just super super phat and just make the bass sound even older but just lacks a bit of bite and crispness that the other strings had..
I might try a set of DR Marcus Miller's next on it. I'll see how stainless steels go on it.

But, as the guy who was whining a little ways back about the looks of a maple fretboard, that white KPB-4 with white pickguard and maple looks mighty good. Yep, if/when I order an LM it will be that color - transwhite w/ white pickguard maple board w/ blocks and binding

A very cool local tech has tried a mod on my AC that may interest you guys. I went in to him and explained that I disliked the bent plate bridge on my bass. He pretty quickly told me that the bridge was great but I could try replacing (temporarily) the saddles (which are ridged and classic old school) with some brass saddles. He then proceeded to hand cut these saddles for me. These brass pieces weigh three times the originals and it is a simple swap in/swap out experiment.

The outcome of this is that my AC has a considerable increase in "grunt". I've had to back of the tone knob a bit and decide if I like the thickened up tone. My current opinion is the bass now sounds monstrous. It sounded amazing to begin with but it now thumps a touch harder.

I realise this is sacrilige to many but at least I am changing the topic away from fretboard wood for a few hundred words

I would so completely rock that bass. Of course I expect similar ill will towards my pickguard choice on the Musicman I have on order.

Ooooo... I bet they would sound just great with a Dalbergia board!

Can you take a couple of shots of the new saddles? Sounds interesting...

Oh, and since everyone seems to be weighing in here, I like the green striped bass. Reminds me of a racing car from the 60's...

Interesting. I think you would probably get the same impact from using Jimmy's standard bridge, which seems to sound great, and result in a similar tone as you describe based on reports of those like Kirk who have used both on the same bass.

That bent plate seems to be designed to really mimic the old Fender bridges, which is why, to me, that make total sense for someone who is going for that '1965' sort of thing... a nitro LG or the passive P Bass thing. For the LM and 'slightly less than all out vintage' LG's and other models, it seems that the standard bridge might be the best choice. IMO.

The standard Hipshot bridge that I use has Brass saddles they are just plated chrome. I hope you didn't pay a lot to have your tech cut you replacement saddles for your bass...I have Hipshot use my mount hole pattern on that standard bridge so it retro fits (without any mod).
