Ace, if I didn't have some other financial obligations right now, I'd be doing EVERYTHING in my power to get one of these going. I'll have one some day. Just maybe not as soon as I'd like.

I'm getting the orange one..... Wow.didn't know that this was only the second bass he's built with those specs.Makes it even more special.... I remember seeing you test out Jimmy's basses at his display........you were realy killing it with that Limited I must say. I saw your bass body when I went on the shop tour the first night......Easily the best Sunburst finish I have ever seen..... And yes that was Ruben's bass...Oscar Cartaya took a pic with it to tease Ruben because he's overseas and wants his bass badly!

I played the bass again this morning for an hour...man...I've played alot of basses in my life but this thing is a time machine....its like going back to what it was like a few years after I was born. If you guys can get the Dalbergia go for it.
I'm trying to get other things done today but everytime I walk by and it catches the corner of my eye I gasp a little inside at how beatiful and "right" this bass is .

I'm still going to experiment with strings..right now the steel D Addarios are on from the shop but this bass kind of screams out for a more subdued high end..like nickels.

Ok..one more thing..the preamp is wonderful for the wood combo and pups..(like Ken and others have been posting)....I have the treble all off... but slightly boost the bass which when I do seems to just support the low end in a transparent but musical way..not altering the main character of the bass. The other thing that is kind of heartening is that when the pre is engaged it dosent seem to compress the tone in any noticable way...which I've noticed with some other preamps. For the old school tone I've been favoring the rolling off the tone about 1/2 way..I'm hoping if I change strings I'll be able to open it up a little more. In any event..the "Jaco" back pup tone is off the hook...
For sure this is the nicest sunburst I've ever seen..but really I took a good look at all the finishes at the shop on the headstocks and bodies and every one was vibrant and looked totally "authentic" if that makes sense. So if you are going to get an orange bass...this would be the place to do it ! lol

Ya..I agree with you on this. The AC 70's LM still has the 70's vibe but is closer to a "vintage" 60's than the Celinder and a few other 70's inspired basses. As I think about it there are a few factors on this- one, I think ( but not 100% sure on this one) that Jimmy winds his pups to the 60's tone more than the 70's, and two, his ash is not as heavy as..lets say Celinder for sure...and the smaller frets have their own tonality too to my ears too. Its a really cool "flavor" of 70s Jazz for sure.

Pete..for sure I will. If you are in Toronto let me know too and you can check it out. For that matter if anyone happens to come here and wants to check it out you'd be more than welcome to.
Jimmy didnt want me to take it home:scowl: - but I had a compromise idea...I told him that when I'm back in NY ( I go there a fair amount) I can leave it at the shop for anyone to check out.

Nice! I am still completely, totally digging mine, and rarely play anything else at this point. You will like it more and more as you get it on gigs... it sounds SO good in a mix! My two favorite rigs with it at this point are the Thunderfunk/Aguilar DB112 x 2 stack (old school with a little bit of edge) and the Markbass LMII / Epifani 410UL (the funk machine.. warm, but very 'big' sounding and with some sizzle up top). These basses the just the bomb IMO.

Thanks so much Gary, I really appreciate that man! That's really cool for you say that. I have to tell you guys a little story though. I was playing an outdoor gig back in July here in Toronto and Mitch came by with his girlfriend and between the second and third set he tried the bass out that I was using at the time. It was a KSDv70j5, anyways Mitch was just messin' around on this mother and if I didn't turn around to watch him in disbelief, this guy was dropping some of the heaviest slap grooves I have ever heard! I mean I was hearing some stuff that would have made Marcus Miller even say Damn!!! I looked at Mitch, then I looked at the bass and I turned to the band and said "Ok everybody, the real bassist is here and is gonna finish the show!" :D

Now with this beautiful Alleva-Coppolo I can only imagine the sweet grooves that Mitch will be laying down. Enjoy that bass Mitch, you really do deserve it man.

Jake .....I dont know if I deserve anything more than a Squire Jazz...but this is what happens when there is no alimony, child support, dependants or loans in your life and you are in your 40s ! I mean...its dangerous actually... :D

Paul....I actually need 9 basses to sound decent...you only need one to sound as good as you do...so much for my little "collection"..

Ken- thanks, the bass actually sounds as good as it looks.

I think its amazing that passionate and talented people care to choose to actually make these wonderful instruments for us to play and inspire us in ways they do...for musical reasons.. or for some asthetic reasons or both. There is no way any of these smaller builders go into this for money...they are like us when we play..they love and need to do it. I've been involved with such talented people over time like George F, Carey Nordstrand, the Fodera guys, JP, Ken Lawrence, a few others, and now Jimmy....and I do feel proud and lucky to have the opportunity to participate in their talent through their instrument and support their art- just like I do with musicians and their music I admire.

and really....these guys have made being in music much more fun right????

Yup...nitro.

I forgot to add that with regards to Dalbergia.....if you want it and can get it thats cool but all the rosewood I played was great...the Indian killed too on his basses IMO. Hard to factor out exactly what the diff is but in the end the basses all were "vintage" tonally and had that AC sound. I went with the Brazilian because I had it in my head to have something like that for a long time now. IMO only, you definately dont "need" to have Dalbergia to get Jimmy's tone...the pups, body wood, preamp, and whatever other magic he puts into them is quite enough- and the Indian is totally compatible with that it seems.

I agree. I love my LM. I think it may be alittle punchier than the LG. Not saying punchier as being better. But I like the sound with his PU's and having the back PU 3/4 of an inch futher toward the bridge. I don't think it sounds like a 70 but again it sounds like a punchy 60's to me. All of his basses sound great and i would not feel any less happy than having any of his versions. I would like one of his P5's. But my pocket found a burn mark and I can't seem to keep anything in it. But once i fill in the hole I may get one.

+1.. you were the one that really articulated the tone of the LM to me. I couldn't quite put it into words at the start... 70's but fatter, 60's but a little more aggressive... etc.
