SC owners...what cases do you use? I've been looking into the Mono Dual Bass bag as a way to take both my (soon) SC5 fretless, and a fretted bass to practice.

And your Bordwell SC fits in the ProBag with no worries? I seem to recall your CB came with an awesome HSC. I did check out their site (and your review). They do seem to be nice bags, but I don't know if leather is something I'd be interested in, and wish they had more photos of the actual case in action vs. just stock external shots.

Yes, my CB fits in the Probag bag nicely. It was custom made to fit my Lecompte 6 string, but the measurements of both basses are so similar that the CB fits just as snug. The bag is very well padded, and I don't have any worries about it providing protection. I'll probably end up ordering another Probag for the CB eventually, but since it fits so perfect in the one I have, its not high on the GAS list right now.
The flight case that came with my CB is a nice case, and you could probably put the bass in it and drop it off a cliff with no worries (or have UPS deliver it...pretty much the same thing
), but its not practical at all for carrying the bass around daily. It's a large rectangular metal case, so extremely heavy and bulky. I haven't put it on a scale, but I'd estimate it's somewhere around 50-60 lbs with the bass in it. I've heard good things about Mono bags, and had seriously considered one myself before going with Probag. The fact that I could custom order the measurements for the Probag is what decided me on it though.
Are you looking specifically for a case or a gigbag? Protec makes a pretty decent "case" called the Contego. Its more of a case/gigbag hybrid: opens like a case, but doesn't have hard sides of metal or plastic, but instead it's made with a stiff foam covered in nylon. I've got a couple of those and have been happy with them, but they're also a little bulkier than a bag.

The dual Mono case is great. Offers great protection, waterproof, light and great padded backpack straps. 2 separate compartments for each bass is a big plus too.

...and I thought I was probably the only one talking to Cliff about the possibility of building a single cut headless! I look forward to seeing your bass in "The News" section. (Actually, I love seeing all of Cliff's creations.)
Are you going to use the Hipshot Headless System? If so, what string spacing are you going with at the bridge?

The thing that turns me off about the ProBag is the reported weight of the bag(s), something that was mentioned a few times in the thread-review you provided.
I liked the Mono cases weight; esp., since I know my Walnut SC is going to be on the heavier side of things, and my Warwick isn't the lightest thing in the world. The fact that are waterproof, and seem to have more storage capacity (pockets) also pushes me in that direction.
I used to own a Reunion Blues hybrid "case" which was great, but they don't offer a double bag -- and I'm really liking the idea of a dual bag; not only for transporting the basses, but also for storing them when not being played. My old music room is now my son's room, so space in my new "area" is somewhat limited. Hardcases, and multiple bags just don't fit. I've unloaded so much gear in the past year or so - just making space while retaining my "all-star" set-up. Hence the CB -- hopefully the culmination of everything I've liked about numerous basses, finally put into one instrument. My goal is to have only it and my '02 Warwick (my first "real" bass) in the stable. One fretless. One fretted.
Waterproof and light -- that sounds as good as PB & J.

Waterproof is definitely nice, but more storage? I guess the Contego has less space than I remembered (I rarely use mine). I've always considered the Mono stuff to be pretty limiting space-wise.
hmmm, I don't remember mentioning the weight of the Probag (maybe there's a mix-up btwn my Probag and my mention of ProTEC cases...two totally separate companies).
The Probag is an exterior leather BAG with foam/shag padding. There's a flexible rubber reinforced "foot" on it and an extra small reinforced area for the headstock. Its no heavier than any other gig bag I've owned...maybe in the 7-10 lb range?
Probag is a custom made bag, you can order as many extra pockets you like on it. The one I had made was actually a little different than the standard template they offered. I had them make a smaller zippered pouch instead of the bulkier flap style that came with it, and added a top zipper pouch. I usually have a carry-all bag with me, so extra storage space wasn't an issue for me.
Not trying to sell you on the Probag or anything; I've just been very happy with mine, and wanted to make sure I'm giving you clear info.
Oh, and Probag does offer a dual-bass bag as well.
Yeah, and as has been discussed elsewhere here on TB, I think this is the company that promised an exclusive with Brian/LowEnd and then later broke their word and took the collaborative design and started selling directly. I have a little bit of a general issue with these guys as a result, but I know it's a nice bag (I'm figuring due in part to Brian's specific input). Anyway, FWIW.

I have a dual Mono bag which is very nice, if a bit huge. I also have a Reunion Blues single bag made of cordura that is just about indestructible.
This is the first I have heard of this. I went ahead and did a search and could only find one thread on TB from 2008 where Brian from Low End made the claim that the bag was his design, and that Probag ripped it off from him. In the same thread someone else states that Probag had been selling the double bass bag since 2003, but Brian did not respond to that. Its hard to know what the real story is here. Are there any other details or threads about this?
I don't want to derail this thread, but I'd be interested to know more about this. If they truly did rip a guy off, I wouldn't want to do further business with them, but at the same time, if its just some business disagreement or falling out, I wouldn't want to start tarnishing Probags reputation.
I actually spoke to Brian directly... related to the leather bags he used to sell with his brand on them. The thread was from 2008, but I believe the work he did with them pre-dated that thread by a fair amount, accounting for the time diff. Anyway, not to derail either, but I trust Brian more than I trust those folks. Again tho, FWIW. It'd probably be fair to call my posts here "hearsay" as well, so take it as you wish. Food for thought... look into it further with Brian directly if you care to.
As far as I know, correct. Single only.
Plus, I think the Mono stuff is just made a lot better too. Given comparable space, I'd always go Mono over ProTec. I have the single M80 and it's a great bag as long as I don't need more space.
My favorite single bag right now is the older version of the Sadowsky PortaBag. The new one is a branded version of the new Access Stage 5 (which there's also a backstory on), which is very nice, but it's got a bit less storage, and at the same time is a little heavier. Still very nice, just like the old one better... including the older pocket design.
The iGig stuff has LOTS of storage, and are made really well, but they're also pretty heavy (probably in large part due to all those storage areas and their zippers).
But I also like the Markbass double bag a lot. Not very heavy, great storage, great construction, BUT, they're really expensive for some reason. I suspect exchange rates.
Roscoe has some new gig bags that I think SKB makes for them, and they're not bad. Largish pockets on the front, not heavy, nice thick padding, but the handle/strap arrangement is not quite as cool as I'd like.
For regular gig bags, the ProTec Deluxe is among the best I've found (so far). Really good padding, good zippers, not very heavy, and lots of good storage.
The inCase stuff is also really nice, but impossible to find now. I have a few of their DUB cases I use mostly for bass storage and a couple of their singles, but haven't used them in a while. Really well padded and yet still pretty light weight at the same time, good storage.
I've seen people speak highly of Mooradian, but haven't tried those yet.
Of course there's LOTS of other bags out there too... just my experiences so far for the most part.
Yes, cliff will be using the Hipshot system. I talked to Hipshot and the bridge itself is similar to their type A bridge. I would like 18mm string spacing. Have to talk to Cliff about that.
