Club Bordwell Part 4

I just made my deposit for my 17th CB bass build.
Looking to get a Holy top bass just like my son's bass he got.
It should be done middle of next year.

…. I also ordered a new Gibson bass, new Warwick thumb, and new Bose PA system.
I just got moved into my new retirement place on the water. It's time to live the bass life 100%!

17th?! Damn. They must be good.

Same exact specs...Holly top the only difference?
For now, maybe PJ might be only change.

They're the best, and that's after at least 40 other high-end basses.
The major difference other than just pure awesomeness is Cliff is always on schedule and always available to answer email and text.

My Bordwell PJ is my current #1. Bart PJ set with hum free J and TI Jazz flats. Love that bass.

Retired? Congrats!!!

I just put mine down. A little afternoon jam with Stevie on Sir Duke, and some want You Back with the Jacksons, plus some others.

That bass->noble->Clarret interface->DynAudio monitors with sub is an amazingly satisfying practice rig. Need to work for another 45 minutes and then I can get back to it.

I don't have the luxury of retirement for 9 more years, but I've been a remote worker with a lot of me time during the day since 2016. So I'm only regular jealous.

Remote work is the best, I've been remote for about 15 or more years.

Remote work is specifically design for musicians. :roflmao:

In the meantime while we wait for more eye candy shots from Scott, things finally lined up with the gig last weekend and I got some fun photos with my Bordwell! We opened with some Prince, so this bass was kind of perfect visually! ha ha

I don't play it for every gig, but have been absolutely thrilled with the sound after switching away from the Darkglass preamp. Both pickups in single coil mode reminds me of a killer 70's spaced Jazz bass sound, and was really enjoying the front pickup in Series mode for this gig for a "P Bass with something more going on" sound.

Gotta find/make time to record some audio from after the electronics swap, and post a more formal review....

What preamp did you switch to? What pickups do you have in there?

Cliff put in Nordstrand Big Rigs and the Darkglass Tone Capsule (at my request, just to be clear), but I switched to a John East Uni Pre for the preamp.

I've tried every flavor of Darkglass and was curious about the Tone Capsules frequency points, but that was the final nail in the Darkglass coffin for me. I love the sound of Darkglass stuff in demos, but in personal reality I've never vibed with "the Darkglass sound," which it all has. The East has a warmer sound, with character that's its own but reminds me of Aguilar. It also has much more flexibility with parametric mid, bright switch and tone knob.

You can't really beat East stuff in my opinion.
