Club Bordwell Part 4

When in doubt, I (almost) always go for natural woods, and olive and wenge are two of my favorites! That's just me, though...

Completely torn on what look to go for, and need to confirm within a month or so. Gonna be a 4-string SCB, 32", Cream Fralin PJ, Banjo frets

But I'm really torn between a Selected top (maybe olive wood?) and wenge, or Matte Black and Maple. I love black and maple but this will be my one and only custom build so feel like maybe I'll regret not getting a top.

What do?!

So not sure how I missed this, but found on his insta an example of his other single cut shape in a 4 string. Looks great as a 6 string, but I must say I think the original SCB looks better as a 4-banger, imo.

Was wondering if the newer shape would sway me to change, but definitely going to stick with SCB now.

Looks like we're in the same batch. I'm doing a 4-string dola this time around. I have dolas and an scb and like them both in a 4 string.

Yeah I think you're all onto something. I think I'll regret not getting a top.

Fodera has some beautiful examples of olive wood and wenge.

@nonohmic the SCB shape has a lot of character and does very well with a simple finish / wood texture. I dig the "raised grain" black finish + maple board you posted. I would do that personally.... Maybe do some cream pickups and knobs... Satin chrome hardware.... hehe. I think I'm just designing my next SCB at this point.

Dude you just described exactly what I was thinking....

But then I'm torn between that and a top! Arrgh. I have 4 weeks he said

The fact that he keeps selling me instruments after all of the constant changes I make… I would definitely have to agree.
Somehow he still manages to stay on his build schedules over the last 15 years never being late!

It's posts like this that make me feel a little less bad about exhibiting the same behavior.

I love the Myrtle top on my SCB 4-string that you have posted here! Cliff gets the best wood tops! You can't go wrong with a natural wood top from Cliff.

I'm sure he has other great tops. I'm a fan of myrtle myself...

You and me both! Killer looking top on your Dola.

I am big fan of olive. I have a buckeye in next queue but may consider an olive bass next. Although holly has been calling

btw the amboya burl is mine. ))))

I have a buckeye coming up. And a recent amboyna burl. I was thinking olive, but Cliff found a piece of figured walnut that drew me away.

Seems like we have similar tastes.
