It's also the bass that Chris Wood played before ordering his 4-string.I thought so. Fantastic bass!!
I went by Cliff's this week to have my GC find CB tweaked and to pick out the wood for my upcoming custom build. All 4 bases he's finishing now are out of this world amazing.
I chose cottonwood burl. This is an enhanced photo with added contrast to show the top closer to as it will look on the finished bass.
As for the rest, light weight ash body with Purple Heart accent wood. Maple neck with Birdseye maple fingerboard.
I am doing a custom body design, similar to the SC, but with a different shaped upper and lower horn sections. Here is a rendering I did of my design, with top wood. This image is prior to any shaping of the body edges.
For electronics and pups, I'm thinking of going with the Nordy bigman in the bridge location and Nordy big single in the neck position with the Audere 3 band preamp.
Really getting excited after visiting Cliff earlier this week!

Here is my latest render for my custom build. I think the Purpleheart wood accent between the top and ash body is going to be quite nice!
To many knobs, and why on earth would you choose those pickups? Just kidding, nice rendering. You should see how it looks with a fingerboard to match the accent although I have a soft spot for Birdseye Mine was 2 batches ago and I have the BigMan and the BigSplit.
Haha! You had me going at first! I also have a soft spot for birdseye maple... also, I really want the sound of a maple board. I was thinking of doing purpleheart wood fretboard stripes down the sides of the neck for more accent... My only concern is whether or not it would affect the tone.
How do you like the big split with the bigman combo? What pre are you running? Anything you would change?
Audere preamp 2 band but almost never use the tone just the volumes. Never have cared for midrange but the argument can be made to leave it alone if you wish. The pro on the Audere is that it has 2 preamps so there are never any issues with mismatched pickups. The con is you can not turn it off. I am noise phobic so that is why I went the big split, but the single coil setting of the BigMan is as quiet a single coil as I have ever heard. My bass is a page or so back so take a look. Bloodwood would look cool on yours as well. I know it is not the only factor but Purpleheart is most of the time harder that Maple. I don't care for the 2 color fingerboards, but some folks like blondes and some like redheads. Eye of the beholder.
After thinking about it. I would like to hear a bass with those 2 pickups reversed. Bigman at the neck. As far as Bigsplit vs Bigsingle. If you run a Bigman and Bigsingle the only 2 ways to be humbucking is to have BigMan by itself or BigMan switched single and Big single full up. The other option allows you to have either pickup by themselves or a mix of the 2 at any setting. That leaves just the Bigman in single as the non hum setting.
Hey, I made an account a long time ago and was never really active with it and this is more or less my first post.
