Vanity shot of my old Dola…miss that bass a lot…
The pick ups are Nordstrand Big Rigs , and this strings are Infield nickel roundsWhat pickups in that beaut?? Also, TI flats? I'll have to dig up a pic of my old Dola with TIs…
I've been searching for any posts about anyone who has made a semi hollow with Cliff. Anyone know of someone with such experience?
@spade2you has a Ball bass with an f-hole, but I don't know that it's actually semi-hollow.
Two.
Sold the fretted 6 to my brother. The funny thing about the 4 string is that it's so light and people assume it's hollow. For whatever reasons, I thought it would look cool. My chambered Rob Allen 6 string has no f-hole. I guess I'm strange.
Cliff obviously offers the parallel chamber. He might be willing to put some light to medium chambering under the top.
Ask him about most of my basses, he routes underneath the top in certain areas to lighting them up for me. I can't tell any change with the tone, so this is a cool option for weight reasons and doesn't cost too much.He's definitely doing some routing on my build to lighten it further, but I was curious if he'd done a proper semi-hollow build. I have a Rob Allen incoming, but would prefer a Bordwell to replace it down the road since Rob Allen no longer takes custom work.

You'll never be able to catch up with how bad I've bothered him over the years! LolYeah, we're definitely doing the weight reduction routing on my first build in the queue. I'm just wondering if we can get that semi hollow f-hole acoustic sound doing a Rob Allen type build and piezo pickup on a fretless. I'll ask him of course, but I feel I bother him enough that I should at least check with fellow bordwellians to see if anyone knows of such an existing build first.
I'm currently looking at 3 builds in his queue, so I have a little time to do some research before my second one comes up.

But that's a good question.

You should definitely ask him.I would love to have a deep hollow body Dola like Anthony Jackson's current Fodera signature, but I suspect that's a bit to far from what Cliff's normally doing for him to be comfortable trying it...
You should definitely ask him.![]()
Finally getting back out there ( the Dola likes it too ) , feels so good and we are booked for the summer here in Central Oregon just as much as we wanted to be , Thankful !
Man, a six string like this would be killer... you got me thinking now. I got three on order now, maybe I can bribe Cliff for something like this but as a SCB.I would love to have a deep hollow body Dola like Anthony Jackson's current Fodera signature, but I suspect that's a bit to far from what Cliff's normally doing for him to be comfortable trying it...
Cliff will steer you right, but I would suggest something other than buckeye if you want a semi hollow bass. Much too soft.I'm gonna ask him. 30" Semi hollow SCB (already doing a solid Dola) with a buckeye top and an F hole. That's the hope.
