yah, mine's light too... not sure exact weight, but pretty sure under 8. it's an effortless play on many levels.
My awesome in laws got me a Zoom effects pedal for Christmas, so I've been messing with it and recorded this practice session a few days ago. Reverb + mild chorus and distortion. I keep returning to a motif which isn't ideal, but towards the end I throw some string bends in to liven it up, hehe. Practice!
Not yet, I need to, it sounds fantastic but I'm still finessing the setup so I haven't really thought about it yet. Soon!

Who else wants this new body shape for their next Bordwell bass? I know that I do.
I have my own custom single cut for my next bordwell. But before that comes in about 6-8 months, I have this one coming this week.
Well, just put down my deposit for Bordwell #2. I just had a rather disappointing experience with another luthier, so much that I sent it back (documented in another thread). I shoulda followed my gut and just gone with Cliff again, as I'd be four months closer to getting it.
Of course, still subject to change, but so far...
As to body type, I was originally thinking just like the one I already have in my avatar or a single cut, but now I'm leaning towards some of the more traditional ones... I really like the D.
It's gonna be a looooong year. I hope the arrival comes at a better than my last one. My last one showed up the day before I went to Belize for two weeks. Nothing like hopping on a plane after spending about an hour with the bass you waited a year for. With my luck, that'll happen again, right before a vacation.
Anyways, wooooo-freakin'-hoooo!
Of course, still subject to change, but so far...
- 6 string fretless, 16.5 mm spacing (this ain't changing)
- camphor burl top
- Audere preamp with 4 band eq and that Z thing
- Spanish cedar or amapola body. This cannot be a 10 pound bass, I already have enough of em.
- Nordstrand Big Blademan pickups (which are the ones Nordy based on the Wal, which is my main bass - I can't afford a Wal fretless 6, so this'll get me in the ballpark)

Sounds kick-ass! My Dola 5 was designed to get me sort of into Wal territory, but of course the Big Blademan pickups weren't out yet.
It will be interesting to have the Wal and a 'close to Wal' bass. Not too many basses get close to that tone, which is why I'm so stoked for those Big Blademans (Blademen?).
What pickups did you put in the Dola?
It's been quite a few years since I owned a Wal, so no chance for a head to head comparison here!
My Dola has Nordy Bigman pickups with a Nordy 3-band. I have thought about swapping them out for Big Blademan, but I'm not sure there would really be enough difference to be worth the expense, and I'm not sure they would really be that much closer to the Wal tone.
