It's a 4 string Ball bass with Maple Burl top and back, and a Walnut core. The neck is Wenge with a bloodwood fingerboard and it will have an Audere preamp. Except for the preamp and the maple burl top, it's almost identical to the 5 string CB Bass I have (it has a black walnut burl top and an ODP-3 preamp).

Got lucky too... it was originally scheduled for the next build, but got moved up!

I had my eye on that bass since the beginning of this build.

Very cool new pics!!! Those will be killer basses.

Even though I'm musically unemployed, jammed with my drummer last night with my CB. I really dig the Bart pickups and preamp, very flexible tones!!! (sniff, sob) I miss jamming like that.

Dang, I really need to get the ball rolling with that 7 string we were workin' on.

What a breeze to get in touch with Mr. Bordwell! I sent him an e-mail about an idea for a bass and he replied within a few hours.

Just from lurking around this thread, I've been reduced nearly to tears by his breathtaking basses. Seriously.

Not sure when I can afford to get started (wife just back to work after three years unpaid maternity leave), but Cliff is happy to spec out a bass.

I'm thinking: 32" piccolo 6 string parallel chamber. Ideas? Suggestions?

Oooooo, very nice! The Ball bass looks killer with various accent veneers.

I'm still kickin' the tires with Cliff on the specifics of the next one. So far, I know it will be a 33" scale fretless 7, tuned essentially like a 7 string guitar with the intention of getting thicker high strings to get a much more consistent tone. Might go with a Ball or modified SC. I really like the Ball leg rest. We'll probably go with a bookmatched acrylized fingerboard and I know I want a J-type pickup in the same position as my last bass, adjusted for the different scale length.

That sounds like a great bass! Any idea on when you plan to order it? A modified SC shape would be pretty cool for that 7 stringer.

I received the bass today! :hyper: It looks and sounds amazing. Cliff added a layer of bloodwood underneath the maple on the headstock, which was a really nice touch.

A bubinga top is going to look great! Have you finalized everything now? If so, what build are you in?

When I committed to the bass the wait was 10.5 months which should put it around May/June. So far it's 34 inch scale 4 string with the aforementioned wood choice for the body, modern neck. That's really about it at the moment.

I'm debating the pick up selection, I'm leaning strongly toward active circuitry possibly nordstrands/emg's or Bartolini for p/u's.

What type of strings do you have on yours? I'll probably go with rounds as I have a couple of fretless basses (Rob Allen/Warmoth) already with flats.

I'd love to smack down the $$ for a D-Body style and a single cut both!! First things first though. :)

That range of pickups will produce a whole set of different sound (all good choices too!). Is there a particular tone you're aiming for?

I use roundwounds. Currently the stock strings are still on the new one and the five string has a set of Elixirs. I tried a set of Fodera's on a Warwick bass, and they sound pretty good so I'm thinking about replacing the stock set with those when the time comes.

How do you like the Rob Allen? I moved a couple of months ago and found a store near my new place that deals exclusively in high end bass gear, and they have a couple of Rob Allen's in there. Didn't get a chance to try them yet, but they are beautiful looking basses.
