Yes, Bubinga top and back with a walnut core, maple accent layers.

The fretboard was a tough decision for me as well. I have another bass (not a Bordwell) with a birdseye fretboard and I like it alot, it has black accents and abalone inlay.

Wood decisions are tuff. :confused:

Here are the specs as far as woods go.

Top to bottom-
Burl-Quilted Maple \ Thick Wenge\ Thin Purple Heart \ Ceader core\ Thin Puple Heart \ Thick Wenge \ Birdseye Maple

The neck will be wenge with thin maple accents.

Birdseye Maple fretboard, pickup cover, and knobs.

Any suggests? I don't want the binding to be to dark that it stands out like crazy.

wow, a new shape? A general new shape (but there´s already the Rami) or a custom one?

Great choice of woods so far - that sounds most interesting and will become a stunning one. How about purpleheart bindings? I wouldn´t chose one more wood.

Yes, a new shape based of the current ball bass design.
I might not add bindings to the fretboard, but it is prefered if I could just come up with a wood that would kind of go along with the top and fretboard.
I think I'll come up with something, or Cliff will.

Question, guys. How can you tell which pieces of walnut will pick up a good figure? This is my first experience picking out figured walnut. Cliff has showed me some unfinished walnut tops and they all seem to look pretty unflattering in the unfinished state, even though he said he used very similar tops on his Rami that obviously looks great. At this point, I'm used to woods that seem to look roughly the same unfinished and then finished.

Ask Cliff if he has time to wet them for you so you can see more or less what they'd look like finished.

LOL, ok, that's probably something I should have thought of, especially since this is far from my first custom bass. D'oh! :smug:

I have no doubt in Cliff. LOL, especially when you look at the number of repeat customers. Still, good to know I'm not the only guy who has trouble spotting the greatness in walnut tops. When I was looking at the block of koa for my Mouse 30, it looked almost exactly the same finished as it did in the big block.

I'm not gonna bash passive electronics, but I'm getting a killer sound out of my Ball 4, which has the Classic Bartolini PJ pickups and 3 band w/high+low mids. Imagine a Fender without such a harsh attac/quick decay and none of this dead spot crap because all of the notes are extremely consistent. I'm kinda holding on to a Fender Urge for sentimental reasons, but my CB has more or less eliminated my need to buy a Fender P bass.

I got Cliff to put active passive switches on both of my basses, and I really love how my Nordstrand pickups sound played passively.
Especially on my fretless!

Mine has a passive mode (push/pull vol knob), but the sound is same when the EQ is flat. With the treb cut, low mids boosted, and lows boosted it has some nice depth that most P basses with flats don't have, which is interesting since I've got that kind of depth while still using roundwounds!!!

Scott, your new specs sound awesome. I really like bird's eye maple, and want a bass with it as a top one day. I am just going to make a guess that it will be a great bass, which is obvious, because Cliff doesn't make anything else.

As far as a "P Bass" goes, my new bass does it perfectly. Roll the blend all the way to the neck pickup, any Z-Mode, depending on what tone you want, boost the mids, and you are good. I went on a music retreat with my P&W band yesterday, where we played for 12 hours straight, and for the more upbeat, rockin' tunes, it just killed with these settings.

I am playing for the three main services at Church this weekend, and with this bass, the sound engineer, a good friend, can run his eq flat. He has never been able to do that in that room. I was running everything on my bass flat, with the blend knob centered. It sounded awesome through the Aviom iem setup.

No prob. Yeah, looking at a fanned 7 from Nick, although I really haven't investigated a whole lot at this point other than the 35-32" fan and Nordstrands w/Audere. I was a bit of a DT fan growing up and thought it would be cool to get one since he might go dealer-only late this summer.

So....have a Stambaugh fretted 4 and Rob Allen fretless 6 coming pretty soon, ordering the 6 string CB Rami next month, a fanned 7 string acoustic by Keven Robertson (KR Guitars), and the Tung fanned 7 string bass this summer! Long story short, I think I might be a little more willing to pick up some overtime! ;)

LOL, nah. Just a disgruntled pharmacist. ;) I'm very fortunate to have a hospital job that's very stable and short-handed. Basically have been paying for stuff via overtime or cashing out vacation time for the last couple of years. What really helps is that I also live in an area with a relatively low cost of living. I've been out of school for 3 years, but they counted my time as a student so they basically treat me like I'm a 7 year pharmacist.

....that and I've seen too many dudes who have wives who say NO to stuff like this and I'd like to stock up before I gotta ask for permission. Now that I've been dating the same chick for a couple of years, I should probably be ring shopping....and well aware that she rolls her eyes at my bass collection. :p
