Crap! I should have never read this thread, i just placed an order with Tom for a PJ Ryan just like the one on the YouTube Freidland has but a 4 string. You guys are a bad influence ;).

LOL! You have excellent taste! After playing that particular bass, I, too, ordered a 4-string black limba fretless (Mike body) with Nordstrand P/J's! :D

Congrats to the 2 of you!

Are you reviewing the Limba Clement in BGM any time soon?

If you are referring to the bass that Ed is playing in the video, his full written review will be in issue #4, which is being laid out for publication as we speak. A longer video review from Ed will be released about the same time as #4 ships out.

I didn't review that bass, personally, but after hearing Ed rave about it, I asked Tom if I could check it out before we shipped it back to him. Turns out, this was as good call on Tom's part, as two minutes with that bass inspired me to order one for myself. :D

Here are a couple of sneak peeks at my body:

And another look at this same top:

Yep, that one. I'm really pleased for Mr C!

I stumbled upon a Clement on Ebay by accident, visited Toms' site, listened to the clips, found this thread and, after all the good words and props, I took the plunge and haven't looked back!

Reading your post on here just reinforced my feeling that I have made a VERY good decision!

Seeing the pics of mine, has literally blown my mind!!

And looking forward to Issue #4!!!

About a year ago I was becoming disheartened with the sound and feel of factory fretless & defretted basses. Started looking around for a semi-hollow fretless 6 string without much luck. The ones I did find were either way out of my price range or cheap mass produced bass wannabes. Started checking out this forum and keeping up with what folks were posting about their Clements. I Decided to check out Tom's website and found that he was making such an animal at a very reasonable price. Long story short, finally, after a year I believe I have found what I have searched for in my #174 which arrived yesterday. A lightweight, minimalist, extremely comfortable, no frills bass with a great warm tone. Unfortunately, I now have a wall full of basses that will just be gathering dust. And of course, I'll need to get a fretted twin for my Anne, a fretless 4, a fretted 4....:p
If anyone is hanging about on deciding whether or not to order a Clement, don't, These are quality basses at terrific prices from someone who is a accomplished luthier. I just wish I hadn't waited so long.

WD, looks like you and I had VERY similar experiences from opposite sides of the pond. I found one of his basses on eBay too. It was a fretless which I dont play but I went to his site anyway and emailed him that I liked the work he does.
Things just kinda snowballed from there and we ended up coming up with the gameplan for #94.
I've had it since May of 08 and its hands-down my #1 player. The only other bass that comes close to it is my ESP. The ESP's main edge is that it is a very lightweight bass-its about 2 lbs lighter than my Clement. But the SD pickups and Bart preamp really shine for me. I play mainly classic and modern rock and some metal and this bass works just great. Plus the redwood top is a real attention-grabber even if my playing skill isnt! :o
