And you are right, the phoenix copes well with the extras!

Just had a thought, my Wood voice gives me all this greif on solid finishes.....

BUt He also wants me to get a chambered felicia 6 string fretless from Tom - with lots of HOLES in it!!! I mean I was positively drooling over nofretz new baby.

So whats worse, cutting holes in your baby -or wrapping it in plastic??

It's all about the sum total of the design. The components as they read as a whole, not just as individual parts. The wood + hardware + body shape + the colors of everything + texture and figuring of wood...

How many times have we gone " Wowzers look at that ridiculously awesome Buckeye Burl!" bet couldn't determine where the pickups or the control knobs were. Or that the hardware looked out of place or stapled on to the instrument...

Form follows function. In other words it needs to have a purpose to some degree to validate sexiness...

No I don't have the funds right now to set it in motion, Tom. I hear your gears turning from here. On the other hand, ther may be a few other TBer's that could be interested in this as a bass ( and have the cash to do it).

Northern hard Ash with a few chambers in the body

5 piece laminated maple neck with a birdseye maple fretboard (binding optional)

Hipshot A brass bridge

Nordstrand nj5fs
split coil 5 string jazz-type bass pickups

Sadowsky preamp with VTC control....

Odd, but looks good! The pickguard actually looks cool over the beautiful wood.

The older I get the more resistant to using spray fixatives I get. I'm an illustrator and often fixatives are apart of the process....but I use less less and less if it these days...

Very interesting look! It kinda reminds me of the new model Carvin just came out with a few months ago. New/retro all in one.

Regarding the whole natural v color thing, I own 6 basses and only 2 are solid colored-both are SX's- I have a white P-J and a LPB J. Everything else I own is basically natural wood and the funny thing is, most of them are very plain. My T-40 (ash), and Warmoth (dark mahogany) are plain to the extreme. My Carvin and Yamaha are both sort of middle ground- the Carvin because the body is koa that is naturally honey gold in color ( much lighter in color than what you usually see nowadays) and the Yamaha because it has what looks to be a clear pale yellow over plain old alder.

My Clement and my ESP have gorgeous top woods. The Clement is my avatar and the ESP has an exquisite piece of spalted maple. Probably the nicest spalt I've ever seen on a production instrument. Apparently I bought one of the very first ones when they were first sent out to Sam Ash in late 2007.
