All but #2 sound good for me. Let me know if you have a tips or tricks to accomplish these goals. Primarily #1.

I'm on the horns of a dilemma. I have just commissioned Tom to build me a bass. I have to chose between Bartolini pups and pre and Nordstrand pups and pre.

I have both in other basses I own and like both.

A very tough call. Any input to help me off the dime would be appreciated.

I'll post pix of build as it comes along.

Are they the soap bars. If so I believe they are the same size so you aren't locked into one. I actually went for the barts on 215 and am thinking about trying the nordies. The barts are just a little more polite than I am looking for. They sound great but I really have to dig in to get any bark out of them. FWIW

Which Nords? Don't go duals...those are "polite" as well. I know you don't like hum but you may want to consider the Big Singles. Those should bark. I've heard the Big Splits...didn't like them myself...also a bit polite and scooped enough to notice. I haven't heard the Fat Stacks.

I agree, the Duals are very "polite", but they sound enormously good! I have them in my 4-stringer, and it sounds beautiful. I have the Big Singles in my Jazz (with the Status neck), and it has the classical jazz bass bite and a clear crispy and funky sound.

Bartolini mics... they are also great, in my ears they "hum" a little more (not noisy... just the character). I like both, it's a very hard decision. But I have good experience with both, in my opinion, my fingers are as much part of my sound as the various mics are :)

Well that's the problem. The bass I have the Nordies on barks. I love it. The Zon with the Barts is tight, focused, and clean.

Really I'd like to have both at my disposal. I play everything from straight ahead jazz to Rock to R&B and fusion. So I have use for a range of sounds. Generally use more than one bass (sigh). Would like to have as much range as possible tonally.

It is kind of funny. After posting yesterday that I have been struggling a bit with the Bart tone I plugged in at church this morning and heard something closer to what I was searching for. The bass must have gotten a bit of a boost in the gig bag and it sounded full and awesome. Just updating so the barts don't get a bad rap.

Also, the wiring thing is cool. I have to look into that a bit more.

Expecting UPS to drop by an EMG 45 CS package today that I will install in Anne #196. This will put to rest something I have been wondering if I would like one of these for the "Darlene" series bass. Iam home the snow we have shut my employment down but UPS is running. :hyper:

Well, next Clement job for me is coming closer. It will be a double-neck, most likely a 6-string fretted on top with a 4- or 5-string fretless neck below. It will see daylight when I can move some instruments out of my den. It's going good, already sold one off today, an OLP I snagged almost for free a little while ago. While it's not exactly going to finance my double-neck, it's a start :)

I got a killer deal on a Yamaha TRB6, a bass that I've owned before and that I know is suited for my "regular" 6-string solid body needs, and I can spoil myself to the last thing my Clement collection is *REALLY* missing..... a double-neck!

So will enjoy this process :) Don't know if we get it started before or after the summer, but at some point we will :)

That is reassuring. I am still getting to know the bass. I wanted something with lots of versatility and I got it. Now I just need to figure out how to use it :)

After owning a pair of TC basses for a few years my 4 string has become my main bass and the 6 string is starting to spend more and more time on the stand. I believe it would be better suited in a home where it would be used more. Plus I'm looking for funds to have Tom build me a 4 string fretted. Feel free to send me an email about the bass if you're interested. The picture is one Tom took after finishing it. It is still in new condition and I'll have current photos when I get my hands on a camera.
