@ Billbern - thanks for testing it. It was indeed the purpose to have a very versatile instrument and I get the impression that this is a success. I just hope now that I will be able to use all her capabilities.
@ Bassman - she will get her finish soon. So probably the colors will still change.

And then, My Trace Elliot head has decided to die, taking it's very useful 3-way effects loop out of my equation!

So New Band, New Songs, New Amps to get a handle on - all in the next 5 days!!

AND I'm off the booze!

I think so - it's totally uncontrollable volume wise, its either REALLY LOUD

REALLY LOUD

Or totally distorted and REALLY LOUD!!

The rig at the venue is an Ashdown, not sure on make or model, but I think it is one of the lower end models.

Thing with the Trace is there are no authorised service centres on the Rock, and the thing weighs 23kilos (thats over 50lbs) so sending it to the UK is gonna kill me in postage there and back and whatever service charge the levy on it.

Both Tube and Tranny - I usually only use the Tranny Channel.

I took it to a geezer over here when there were issuse with the 6 way foot switch not trigger the things it was supposed to - and since then its been a bit funny, so I'm a bit loathe to give it back to him (he also messed up our guitarists Mesa Boogie)

I'm back at the shed again tonight to have another going over. Will change all the batts in the basses, bypass the Fx and all that Jazz - but I fear the worst!

Ummm, I know our respective versions of English are generally compatible but you might want to watch out for the term "tranny", especially in terms of "tranny channel" :ninja::hiding:

Back OT-too bad your only nearby repair guy is less than reliable.
Any chance of you taking a trip to the mainland any time soon so you dont get clobbered with shipping charges?

I did think the tranny channel could be taken the wrong way

- oh dear -
I've done it again......

With a fresh set of batteries and running Bass only into the amp, things are a bit better - but it isn't how it should be. Maybe I can live with it for a bit and do a bit more fine tweaking to get things sounding right.

Back shedwards again on Thursday - so fingers crossed.

Could it possibly be just a bad volume pot on the amp?

Wait-no. If it gets worse when you're using effects, that probably wouldnt be it.
Is this happening on both channels? If its only the transistor channel, could you just use the tube side.

How about backing off the volume on the bass itself-does that change anything?

I dont think its the pots. I think it is either the compression circuit going mental, or some sort of gain issues in the loop section.

Maybe it was the fact that I've not used for a few weeks over Xmas and the Shed probs got a bit damp without any people being in there.

Lets see what Thursday brings. Hopefully Trace will say "Daddy, Daddy - I DO want to go to Gig!!"

Compression circuit or effect loop. If you think the problem is in one of those 2 areas, can you isolate them?
Is the compression by-passable?
And where are the effects loops in the signal chain?
Sounds like a royal PITA my friend- I hope you can get the situation squared away.
Sounds like it might be time to invest in a good backup amp though.

Any chance of hitting the mainland anytime soon for a little shopping trip?
