Weeeeeeeeell, I've got some good news and some not so good news. I recorded a video of #231 but then my computer decided that it didn't feel like reading my HDD any more :(. The drive itself seems to be in working condition I just need to find some way to get the data back and fix my computer to edit it. So look forward to that some time in the future, lol.

I have a question for you guys. My b string feels great and sounds cool with a short attack, if I'm playing a short note. But if I let the note ring out for any length of time at all it sounds like its wobbling (for lack of a better word). Kind of the same sound you get if you play two notes and one is just a bit out of tune from the other. When I pluck the string it "wobbles" then levels out. Has anyone else had an issue like this and if so what advice do you have for me? The strings are the la bella deep talkn' flat tape wound. The black ones

I'm not one to care much about sustain usually but as good as the Tapewounds sound, they don't sustain as long as rounds if that's what you're used to playing. They also don't have quite the clarity on the B string that rounds do. My only suggestions would be to make sure that there isn't anything at the bridge or nut that could interfere with string vibration and to make sure that the string wasn't twisted when you installed it.

It's hard to tell exactly what the problem might be. But I would check into a couple things, I would swap the B-string for another and see if that helps, maybe change the gauge of the string to a heavier/thinner one. It could be a bad string that does that.

I think it's less lightly, but some instruments have a Wolf note, which is where the wood starts to vibrate "out of control" at certain frequencies. To figure out whether it's actually a Wolf, you could add some weight to the headstock (a steel clamp carefully hooked up on the headstock) and try again. This will shift the frequency a little, and if that's what's interferring it will go away (at least from the note in question). It should also appear on another string and note if it's a Wolf. So it should also appear on the B on 7th fret on the E-string. may not be as noticable, but check it out. And if it's a Wolf, it shouldn't appear on any other notes. If you move up a semi-note or two, it shouldn't be apparent anymore.

However, i think it's a very slim chance that it's a Wolf. Most likely it's just a setup issue or a string issue. Good luck in finding out! :)

Is your "B" taper wound?
I've had issues if the taper extends much past the witness point of the bridge.
If you "palm mute" a little does it get better?

it is a taper wound and it does stick out past the whole bridge before it gets fat. Palm muting it totally stops the problem. It also shortens the attack and I get the same results with a short attack anyway. It gets worse the further up the register I go.

The "issue" is when the taper portion extends towards the nut. The more extension the more the problem for me. I actually shim the ball end at the bridge anchor point with washers to reduce the nut side overhang on the Lakland. I don't use taperwound strings on my Clement. On Tom's basses I have found no need for taper core, the fully wound "B"'s are full and balanced with the rest of the set.

My Clement is a 35" fretless 6er. I'm currently using Hi-Beams, I've used TI Jazz Flats and Ken Smith Silencers with success.
On the Lakand DJ5 I'm using Circle K and SIT Taper Core (Powerwound). I also use Ken Smith Taper Core (B,E,A,D taper) on the BSR5M.

i'd cosign on what was said by others. try swapping strings first. over the years i've had less issues with ti's, but your milage may vary. redo your setup for intonation and possibly tweak the pup distance from the b.

i also want to share the latest to come from the hands of "the man". he is pure artistic genius!
