I really like the Bubinga fingerboard too I wan't sure how it was going to come out but it is cool!
It is done (again). I had originally asked Tom to do the ramp for me during the initial build and he did. It was a very nice piece of blood wood but in the end it was too low for my personal taste. So, Tom cut and matched a piece of wenge to the ramp. I sanded the wenge to the perfect height and glued the two together and it is amazing. As you can see the pups are flat and the ramp matches the radius of the fb but I honestly cant feel it. I've been trying to get the 4 finger technique down and all my fingers sit on the ramp except for my thumb. It is quite a nice feeling, like the warmth of a summers sun. Thanks again Tom. Your work is appreciated.
Something tells me you are going to be getting more requests for Bubinga fingerboards Tom. I sure want one now.

Looks like I;m joining the club. I've emailed my specs to Tom and have sent my deposit tonight. After playing fretted Basses & Guitars since 1984,as well as my entry level affordable Englehardt upright, the urge to have a Fretless 5 has become unbearable... I'd thought of going with something slightly less expensive and mass produced, but realized that I want something custom & unique.(not so much for the look, but the sound) anything less would be playing myself rather than my bass.

Had a double header at the weekend and once again, the babies were on fine form. More comments and Clement love.
In going back looking at older Posts I've noticed that many of you have shared the specs of your basses when ordered. I suppose I'll do the same here. #248 will be a Swamp Ash Bodied 5 string Jon Fretless with inset Dunlop Straplocks (I love the things and have put them on all my basses & guitars except for the classical). The neck will be Black Limba with an unlined fretless Katalox fingerboard. (should stand up well to my preferred Fodera Heavy Roundwound set) I selected 2 Nordstrand Big Singles for my [ickups. The hardware will be the Stock Hipshot bridge and tuners which Tom uses. I'm looking forward to the first day of the build like a kid does Birthdays & Christmas...

Sounds like a good combination. Be interested to hear how the Limba/Katalox works with the Foderas. Keeping it passive?
Thinking about Limba for the next build and have switched to Foderas on the fretted 201 - good strings.

Should be nice and light with the Ash / Limba combo. Really looking forward to seeing a finished Katalox Fingerboard - The pieces that Tom has had in look amazing unfinished. I would guess it will retain a lot of its colour.

I look forward to seeing the katalox in its finished form as well, the unfinished boards have such a beautiful color (colour for you accross the pond Davey

Yes Nofretz, I'm going passive with this one. I Love the Bartolinis and the Active electronics in my Pedulla ThunderBass 6. This time around I want to limit the coloration to any inherent in the pickups, and what I choose to dial in on the amp etc. Though my build lays a few basses into the future, with Tom's growing popularity as a Luthier, he's been Class A all the way in our communications so far. I'll definitely keep the board here posted.

That one has one of the few pale moon ebony FB's Tom's done.
Tom's not afraid to work with some "out-of-the-box" woods.
He's done a ton of basses with bloodwood FB's; he's done a few that had solid one-piece claro walnut slab bodies; the handful with the pale moon ebony FB's; and he's probably done more with black limba than almost any other luthier out there. Heck, my own Clement has a cocobolo FB-not necessarily a rare wood but one not commonly used for FB's.
I like the fact that he'll work in almost any type of wood available. He'll let you pick things out and he makes great suggestions too. He found the burled redwood top on mine.
Just dont ask him to do a one piece wenge neck!!! LOL!

Not ready to do another yet but would love another golden buckeye topped bass, again, if Tom could work with that. Have heard it's tender stuff. I sold one I had years ago fretless F bass. But a Clement golden buckeye would be even better.
