The nut is 1 and 9/16". As you can see in the picture, right after the zero fret the neck narrows, and then starts to taper out to the body. Not sure why it does this, but it feels great to play. The string spacing at the zero fret is 7/16".

I love everything about this bass, but I am starting to question my choice of a Tonestyler with the MM pup. I really like the Tonestyler with single coil pups, but oddly enough, it only sounds right when the pup is in series mode. When I switch it to parallel the Tonestyler loses something. The problem being that I love the sound of parallel mode. So, I'm thinking of doing a little experimentation. I have an EMG stacked B/T that could go in the same hole, as long as I can fit the battery without any changes to the cavity.

I have become a big fan of the way a headless bass feels on a strap. I just picked up a 1988 Kubicki Ex-Factor. very cool.

Thanks for the numbers.

...and now that you mention it, I was wondering about the the tapering of the neck around the zero fret. Maybe Tom will enlighten us about this.

I am also interested in knowing why the nut and headpiece are spaced as far away from each other as they are. Come to think of it, I notice that Tom also seems to like a bit of space between the nut and zero fret. Interesting.

Well, I generally like the pickup(s) wired straight to the output jack, so I am probably a bit biased when it comes to wiring schematics. However, some strategically placed series/parallel switches can certainly create some tonal variety while retaining lower impedance.

Those Kubickis are some very interesting bass designs. They have inspired me to want a 36" scale tuned D1 G1 C2 F2 or maybe even D1 A1 E2 B2!

i have to say i was a bit beffulded when i was researching the phoenix shape for the new build and found it in both places. on second thought, it was like finding another present under the tree so i was not complaining at the eye candy.

i voted modern double cut because the "waist line" does not look "slim" to me. i like my women curvy so i'll prolly never get an ergo unless you stick my new build photo there :p
