Club Decade!

Same neck, but I sent it to Pat Wilkins who in turn sent it to Ron Thorn to do the BEM inlays. Turned out fantabulous!
I brought my Decade in to Carl at Lakland to get a setup, and while I was there I couldn't resist getting a little upgrade. I loved the bass before and now I'm loving it even more. It's has 3 single coils wired up V,V,V,T with a push/pull pot for the tone that I can pull up to mute all the pickups.
Went fretless with the Decade. Swap the necks on a couple of my Laklands. I heard Erik Scott's latest using a fretless Decade, and had to have it! LOVIN' the fretless Decade...thickest mwah ever!

Yeah you can run all three pickups at once, there are even more cool tones in it now. It's going to take me awhile to figure them all out.

Wow! Very cool, indeed. Carl is the man. There is one other triple-Chi'd bass that I know of, it's Jauqo's 4-07 with a tiger-striped sort of top. His is active.
I have a Skyline Decade set up passive with humbucking Chis (sounds huge) with a push-pull on the tone pot for single-coil-like operation. I would be interested in comparing it with yours sometime, if you're game. I'm in Lakeview.

Just curious, were you inspired by Jauqo's bass or was that suggested by Carl?
Neither, I just though it would be useful to have a 3 pickup bass and that big empty space between the pickups on a Decade just seemed to be asking for it. When I asked Carl about it he said he hadn't put a middle pickup in a Decade yet, so I figured why not. Now in addition to the great sounds the Decade already had I can get some P or J bass sounds, as well as some new sounds by blending the different pickups. Also I thought it would just look cool too. 
Just swapped back the necks. I just play my fretted basses more than fretless...which means I wouldn't play the Decade as much. Can't have that! But I did order an Audere Pre for it. Thanks Mr. Matt for helping me out!
Ok things were finally in alignment to allow me to pick up my Skyline Decade, got it yesterday, used but looks like perfect condition.
My impressions so far:
- very nice finish and workmanship, even though am still not that keen on the red color, wish it were black....
- nice sounds, but a bit honky in some settings
- I like the pickups but the covers are too obtrusive, too wide and hurt like hell when hitting them accidentally like when slapping; my hand instictively rests on the strings in the bridge position rather than the pickup cover, which makes for more of a reach
- this will never be my primary bass
- the hump is small and far behind to support my arm the way I normally play, but so far this seems manageable
- I like the Lakland strings but am wondering how my usual Rotosound Swing Bass strings would behave - I prefer very taunt strings but the Laklands seem taunt and stiff, there's a subtle difference
It's only been a short exposure to it and not in a live setting so time will tell. Nice bass, maybe a keeper, but I will keep looking for the Holy Grail.
Also makes me wonder about the difference between the Skyline and US models of Decades.
Maybe that 3-pickup model would be a good option from the manufacturer - having a pickup in the middle would be a more natural (for me) place to rest my hand. Maybe one of the third-party parts suppliers have a finger rest that extends to there without altering the body.

Thanks for the post! Yeah...the Decade is a tough fit for some people. I would just double stick a thumbrest on it to see if that helps.
