Ah...I thought you were an ity bitty guy:-) Just wondering if it is more comfortable for larger players. I'm 6'2" and have long arms, and it is very comfy. I can tell that the lower registers are a little farther away, but since I'm tall, not a big deal.

Do you think that it's it?

I'm 5' 11", with average length arms and small fingers. I have not had any difficulty, but I think it is my habit of holding a bass off to the side onto the front part of the hip and resting my thumb on the end of the neck for plucking that positions a long (34" scale) neck so that my fretting arm can easily reach everything. The easiest for me to play are medium and short-scale basses (32" and 30 1/2"0, but I can manage 34" fine, probably because of my placement of the bass body onto my hip bone. (Jeez, what a crazy post here).

Anyway, the Decade is about as easy as any 34" for me to play and really is no different from the shorter scaled basses.

Yep, I'm 6'5" with orangutan arms. I can see/feel the difference in reaching the lower registers compared to a P or a J, but it's not an issue for me at all.

I believe all the US Laklands that have matching headstocks still have the reinforced area unpainted. I actually really like that about Laklands. I toyed with a matching headstock, but I seem to like the natural ones more. My Dude Pit II Glaub has a matching headstock though...and I really like that way that looks. I guess I like both!:bassist:

One thing's for sure, the Chis definitely have their own sound compared to the Dark Stars. I really should do an A/B with my DS'd Glaub and identical strings on both (right now, the Decade has Lakie nickels, while the Glaub has Chromes). Even then, pickup positioning is very different, of course, AND Chis have the single and humbucking options.

I don't want to say too much after just 2 hours of playing, but this Decade looks to be an extremely versatile bass. I find myself wanting to try each song in several different pickup combinations/modes and with my right hand on either pickup or floating in the middle.

i must admit, i didnt like the decades at all uintil i saw your one!
the sound clips on lakland.com are killer! really love the pick punk one :)

Maybe I should order a skyline from one of the stores with a return policy. I could spend 50 bucks shipping it back in order to save me from spending 3 grand on a US...although spending 3 grand on a bass I've never played sounds really dumb anyway:D

You "ergonomics crybabies" need to play a Reverend with that frakkin chrome bumper on the upper bout!
Or sling on a slab bodied Fender or G&L for a while...

Really, I've played so many different basses it don't hardly matter to me. Unless it's short scale;)

"The reach" thing with the Decade is due to the short upper horn. If you keep track, you'll see most basses have the upper horn strap button at ~ the 12th fret. It ain't yer arms, it's the design. You could try doing the "early Fender strap button on the back of the headstock" thing...?
