try a different bunch of strings that are easily available, until you find one that work for you and your bass

HI All,
Hope everyone is doing well.
Having a very good preamp onboard in every F Bass.
Can anybody recommend, a clean amp that just simply amplify the sound with no EQ and let the onboard preamp do the shaping?
I am a bedroom player who doesn't like too many electronic in the chain of sound.
Wonder if there is an amp with just one knob "Volume" only that I can pair it with my Aguilar SL112. No need to be big power.
Like Anthony Jackson contra bass but the amp version of it.

Well, not sure if this is quite vintage enough, but maybe it's worth a try: Ernie Ball cobalts, and roll the passive tone control off a little.

I just tried a set, and they're not as glassy bright as other rounds.

Incidentally, t is AMAZING how different Edmond's tone is on this recording with his AC5 than Alain's tone is with his AC6. There are lots of reasons for that... redwood top verses spruce, DR DDTs rather than Fbass strings, the amount of piezo that is dialed in... but mostly the styles (and hands) of these players are quite different. You can really hear Jaco's heavy influence in Edmond's playing on this clip.

Yep, I know I'll regret it but the day I said would never happen has come. See my ad below. Someone from the Club really deserves to get this bass...it is a special instrument and holds some additional sentiment having been owned by one of our fellow talk bass members, a great player and a great person, who is no longer with us.

Wow. I didn't realize Adrian had a BN5 like that.

This is the only one I knew of.

Wow that is one special BN5. I never had the pleasure of meeting Adrian but my father always speaks highly of him. Good luck with the sale and lets hope it goes to a good home.

Not that sign is more like it. And yeah, no photoshop lines, and that huge black BOX covering the sign doesn't tip anyone off to a doctored photo either! ;)

I'm listening to the clips now. Very cool and fresh. I think I'll be looking for them next on amazon.com. Thanks for leading me to them.

Unfortunately strings choice is a very subjective and personal thing; you've got to like them too, and take into consideration: expense, longevity, tone, feel and what works best for that instrument.
I will test many strings and find those which seem to bring out the best in an instrument and then make that recommendation. The rest is up to the individual.

+1, but especially re: the Tecamp. I often use the effects return/power amp input on my puma 900, which sounds fantastic and bypasses the whole preamp section of that head.

However, the preamp the Puma heads is a thing of beauty...
