Club Fbass (thread 13)

I want to say the GFC's were 34", made in the late 90's, and were more akin, tonally to the "studio" models F bass used to make and recently reissued (more fundamental in the tone and slightly thicker?) . Maybe someone can correct me/extrapolate, I'm sure I've bastardized this response. lol.

Thanks, and yes I would be interested in anything anyone can offer that can educate me on these models.

Dave Hill said that one (or both, I don't know), of those may be a GFC.
If so, what is a GFC, how does it differ from a BN? What year were they produced?

Yes, George Furlanetto Custom. I have the autumnburst one and it's an L5 model. I have only ever seen 4-5 of these models out there so these are pretty rare. The main difference is that it has a flatter neck profile, 70's pickup placement and completely made by George himself (I heard that somewhere). These are also 34.5" scale like the bn5's.
The year is 2001 and I believe it was originally sold at the bass exchange in California. The natural 5-string that has floated around TB was originally at jimmy coppolo's shop "New York guitar and bass boutique" and I chose to buy my 2002 black "nyc" Bn5 instead of that one at the time.

I stand corrected, on most accounts. ;)

I had a chance to buy one a couple years ago, maybe even from you. Prob should have jumped on that. I like the BN look a little better, but based on my tone and feel preferences, I bet the GFC would really suit my desires.

Cool, thanks for the info. If it sounds as good as it looks you're very fortunate to have a rare gem like that!

The GFC was kinda like a forunner of the vf series way before they came out. Only several were made and the specs above were accurate as far as I can remember although I think there is a chance they were 34”, but I might be hazy on that. It was like a cross between a BN and a Jazz. Marcel had one..maybe the first, for years before he came into the company.

Was????
Does that mean she's no longer with you?

Yep sadly they’ve all come and gone. I miss that Sunburst six string and the AC five like crazy, but I can’t afford to be a collector so I'm more of a trader
