Club Fbass (thread 13)

Number please! Just purchased a GFCustom 5 from a fellow TBer. According to George this was his first attempt at a more "Fendery" bass. He felt it was too close to a BN so he went back to the drawingboard for the final VF product. I'm supposed to receive it this Monday - can't wait!!

I have used a bunch of cases for my vf5. I know it fits in any case that is cut for a jazz bass. I don't know if the BN series is the same dimensions though. Try shooting George or Marcel a line. They could let you know.

Been a few weeks but I just thought I'd post a few pics of this fantastic Studio 5 custom. Its 34", one piece back of neck, 21 frets, northern ash, ebony dots. I wanted to ressurect this model for the order as I remember how great they sounded coming out of the shop years back and also add a few twists at the same time. George came up with a way of adding an extra fret to the model without changing the neck pocket which was important to maintaining the tone of the model. I'd say that overall the Studios have a bigger bottom or deeper bottom, mids seem to focus a bit lower, and the slap is at the sweeter spot for me anyways :).
I really like the cleaner simplified body shape, shorter upper horn etc too. They made 2 at the same time and they both turned out so well they might do a limited run of them before NAMM. There is the 2nd one at the shop now ready to go if anyone is interested.
Love the bass- thanks to George and Marcel!

I've only played a Studio one time back in 2000, a month after I bought my BN5. If both basses had been in the store then I probably would have walked out with the Studio! I liked the larger body better and to my ears a slightly bigger bottom. But both are great models. Good score Mitch!! Jim
