Club Fbass (thread 13)

next question: Alain....is there any new live or studio recordings coming soon...here's an idea...as you have toured all over the world and have played with many incredible mentionable's...what about a live CD with all these great events?

**I will let you definitely reword that question..LOL**

Another good question Randyt. Zortation, not sure about yours :)

BTW, Saturday i tried my first F-bass, I was so impressed, i'll i'm thinking of right now, is to sell some stuff to buy one... It had exactly to tone i had in my head. (Punchy, growly with a solid lowend)
I'm watching everything i can find on internet about the bn5...

Pretty much my reaction when I played my BN5. I've played and owned a lot of basses over the years, and my old Jazz was the "gold standard" for all of that time. When I first got my F, it was the "sound in my head"! Jim

Hello F Bass Club,

I'm interested in buying an F Bass and would like some of your expert input before I pull the trigger. My main question is whether to go with a BN5 or a VF5? What's the difference sound-wise? Playability? Tonal range? Also what are the necks like? I prefer a fairly thin neck - the Roscoe Century I have is about right.

I don't have the opportunity to see, hear or play one where I live so I'm depending on your advice - thanks in advance!

Hey lotus land. I've got a few VFs now but have owned a BN in the past and I've played quite a few. Neck wise the BNs seem to be slimmer although I'm sure if you talk to George or Marcel they can do whatever you like. I've played a few VFs that had pretty thin fast necks as well. Sound wise the VFs are more of a traditional "vintage" tone with a little more bark to them where as the BNs are more of a smoother modern sound. That being said I'm really just generalizing two very versatile basses. Your best bet is to call the shop and talk to the guys there. Both George and Marcel excel at customer service and they really strive to make sure you get everything you want out of a bass.

lotusland...

Also, just adding to what McMillions said...I would look around at your local music store..and play a few different types...VF or BN...maybe an AC??...the great thing with FBASS....is that they can customize what ever you want!!!!
You wont go wrong with owning an FBASS..thats for sure!!!!

Good luck

I'm coming back from Ontario and last monday I visited f-bass' shop. I was very well received by Marcel, George and their team. I wanna thank them very much for their hospitality and for their time. I really appreciated the shop tour and since i just arrived home, i will post picture tomorrow. I just like to add that f-basses are incredibly well build instruments by qualified and passionate people.

Here are two shots of a very nice and probably first VFP5 bass with a figured top. My apologies to the owner of that bass, who may not have seen these pictures yet...
I am impressed because the guys at f-bass have put a matching veneer on the pickups... They even aligned the wood grain between the cover and the top, I am speechless....

I just purchased a new old stock Fbass BNF6 for a really good deal. I've been looking for a quality fretless for a while and when I saw the price I knew this was what I was looking for. I did a quick search and couldn't believe the price was accurate. I immediately bought it and waited for the "sorry but there was a mistake and this bass isn't available at that price". Insead I got a message thanking me for the purchase and a shipping notice. I will have this gorgeous bass in my hands on Monday.

I have a question about the pickups and preamp since I as unable to find any information about them anywhere. I see 6 knobs on the bass and was just curious about functions and EQ points. I would certainly welcome being pointed in the right direction with links.

Thanks! I'll post some picks of this beauty once I get it.

Nope, I should have, I just hold it for a few seconds. I wanted to take a lot at the crazy wood figuring!!! It is a truly amazing bass.... Congratulations!
I really like it's name ODIN!!! well chosen name.

You're preaching to the choir Reverend Bassman74! ;)

My Q for Monsieur Caron is: "What are you using to replace your Mark Bass Signature Preamp pedal?"
So what publication will the interview be published in?
