Club Fbass (thread 13)

Placed an order for a VF-5 in October and the Fbass made singles are no longer an option. Only the Aguilar's are available.
I've seen several posts in this thread regarding the tone of the Fbass single coils vs the Aguilar singles and HC singles, with no replies. I'm a bit curious as well. Aguilar offers a 60's and 70's wind, I'm curious if before they started using the Aguilars if the Fbass pups had a 60's or 70's wind, or did they use the same pups in VFs with 60's and 70's pup spacing.
I'm not sure any of us can answer that. I'll message Marcel and see if he can shed some light.

Hi my old F Bass friends. I backed out of an F Bass BN5 Purchase a year ago because I could not make peace with it being 10lbs. I gig quite actively, but my aging back does not tolerate that weight anymore. Do you guys know if a BN5 can be had at 9lbs? Seems like they are all 10 lbs or more. I would love to have a BN5 again. No tone or playability like them!

I feel like I've definitely played a featherweight bn5. All 5 F's I've had have felt closer to 10, but I remember mark wright's (accugroove) bn5 seemed like 9, at the most. I could be wrong.

Have a custom-made BN5 with a known lighter wood-type, and have that wood hand-selected by FBass to be the lightest example as possible.

Possible?

My BN5 is around 10lbs. but after playing a 12 1/2 lbs. EBMM SR5 for 5 years it seemed like a featherweight at the time. Does anybody have any NAMM pics of the F booth this year? Seems like pictures are a little lean on all brands this year on TB, guess everything is on Facebook now. Jim

Soon! :D

I decided to throw a set of LaBella White Copper tapes I had lying around on my fretless BN5.

These strings sounded pretty crappy on my fretted Fodera but they were expensive and wanted to give them another chance. I generally prefer stainless rounds on fretless basses but also really didn't like the tone I got from the Rob Allen 5er with tapesmthat I previously owned. Just not my thing.

In any case, after playing the FBass strung with the tapes for a little bit, I think it sounds really good. Really useable tones for rock gigs too as it isn't as "upright sounding" as I expected. Cool.

I was hesitant to try tapes as my bass doesn't have piezo and only nylon is in contact with the bridge. A quick call to FBass made me decide to give it a try. Thanks Jeff!
