From the last page... take a minute and think about the pickup covers... grain matched, pole pieces exposed... George is the BEST luthier on the planet.

It was and is my only boutique bass, BN5, and I pretty much can't play other basses. neck problems and back problems are aggravated by Fender designs but not my BN, the shape is the most ergonomic and balanced of any bass I've played and the neck is perfect for my hands, not too thin or chunky. Bravo George and Marcel ! JimView attachment 818416
I started playing music professionally in 2003 using an Ibanez Silver Bass which was a 70s Jazz Bass copy (Ibanez got suit by Fender back then) that has an Ash body, Maple neck+fretboard, and over the years I have switched from one Bass to another, but keep coming back to that trusted and familiar combination.
I'm blessed to have a real vintage 70s Jazz and the F Bass VF5 is the best 5-string version of the old Fenders. Believe me, I have tried and own many 5-string Jazz Basses. The guys at F Bass nailed it down to the feel and tone, not just the looks.
My first boutique Bass was a BN5 back in 2007-2008 before I know about the F Bass Club on TB. Now I'm officially in.
What was the repair that took that long? My F will be 16 years old next month and luckily have had no issues with it and I've had to adjust the neck exactly once since then. JimMy BN5 needs an electronics repair since last April. I decided to see if I could go without my F Bass for a while. After this almost year of not using it everyday since 2002, and now playing it again, I would sell my 10 other basses in a heartbeat. Even with dead strings and a desperate need for a setup, NOTHING comes near my F Bass in terms of playability and sound among other reasons.

I just haven't taken it to be repaired. It's an electronics issue. The only person I have trusted besides F Bass themselves to do any work on my bass is Tim Cloonan of Callowhill Guitars. He was in Philly and is now a few hours away. I need to call him and ask him who he would recommend. My BN5 will turn 15 in August. And I bought it new from Jimmy Coppolo when he had his NYC store in '02
Have you contacted Fbass about it? If you can get the bass in the shop chances are they will fix it gratis.
You're probably right. No, I have not. I want to see if it's something minor like dusty pots. If not, I would send to them.
Thank you very much. And Wow!!! No.278, That is my House's number! How cool is thatCLUB FBASS ROSTER
(Updated 10 February 2016)

That's what I'm talking about!! Some of the best customer service in the business. JimIf it's serious, give 'em a call. I had a second-hand BN4 that was cutting out and eventually one pickup stopped working altogether. I called them, brought it in and had no expectations about their service or what they charged. They replaced the pickup, no charge.
When I got my first 6-string, I went with John Patitucci's signature bass -- in fact, I went with two: a fretted and a lined fretless. It made sense; Patitucci is one of my favorite 6-string players, I love his tone and his playing. Before long, I was not playing anything else 5-string ,4-string or 6-string.... what do you know, this 6 stringer is awesome!!!!! Holy cow!!! Everything about the bass is incredible! Despite my small hands the neck shape allows me to play with ease and the tone is so sweet, I can't get enough of it.
The response is blazingly fast, string tension is incredible on all 6 strings, neck length is just right. The shape? I believe that if bass guitars could evolve on their own, they would all end up like the F Bass. You only realize the perfect shape after playing for an hour. Then it's no contest, it's one of the most logical shape.
I never gave thought to response till this past week, but I am going to admit, tension and response is so right on it can not get any better than this.
Everything about this bass makes sense. I hate to admit it but my Dingwall Prima just got shoved into the case. I literally go to bed at night thinking of playing the next morning. No matter how late my 7 month old son makes me stay up in middle of the night, I get up at 5 AM and fire up the amp. This thing literally sounds good on my crap VOX headphone amp and that's a miracle in itself.
The only negative I have is the gig bag. I wish the logo wasn't some cheap print but stitched so that the entire world could see that I own one of the best bass guitars in the world.
Overall, thumbs up. I hate sounding like a jerk because it's not cheap (not the most expensive either) but everyone should own one of these. My life got upgraded just owning and playing this instrument!
Well said Tom! You're making me want a BN6. I have a TRBJP1. It was my main bass till I got my F Bass. I always wanted a Fretless JP. I just didn't want to defret the only one I had. Great bass, but yes, no F Bass by any means. When I got my first 6-string, I went with John Patitucci's signature bass -- in fact, I went with two: a fretted and a lined fretless. It made sense; Patitucci is one of my favorite 6-string players, I love his tone and his playing. Before long, I was not playing anything else 5-string ,4-string or 6-string.
Then I got my BN6. The shape isn't just appealing... it is smart. The balance on the strap was AMAZING; it make every other bass I own feel like it's got neck dive.
My BN6 also taught me that the other 6-string basses are substandard in other ways. For example, 35-inch scale length Foderas have great B strings, but the longer bass doesn't just tighten one string, and the tightness of the C string was too much. At 35-inches, the C string sounds tinny and strident and not bass-like.
And everything about the BN6 prioritizes tone. The volume / volume controls give players more tonal flexibility than volume / blend. the boost-only preamp is so transparent and organic. You can shape tone organically without ever having a bad sounding tone, which is NOT the case with the boost / cut preamp others have.
In other words, my BN6 beat all other 6s because its balance, string taughtness and tone were the best a bass can be.
After a time, I realized that although I liked my Patituccis, I'd never gig them again because of my F-Bass BN6. I sold them, then I started to sell other non-Fs.
![]()
Then health problems with my left hand brought on a decision to sell more basses and just keep a few basics.
![]()
Right now I still have a Fodera, and a vintage Fender, but everything else is F, and that's because F earns the keeper status with superior innovations and building. I'm just glad they look great too.
Oh, and I have this too.
