Club Fbass (thread 13)

Well this is probably the 4th F-Bass I've owned over the last several years so I can't say that I'm too cut up about it ;)
Laughing. Not me; I get pretty excited with each new FBass.

Here's when I got my Alain Caron Limited Edition Replica BN6:

And added it to my other 4 6-string F-Basses:

And those 6ers were in addition to my 5-string F-basses...

Trust me, I was pretty "cut-up" when I got ALL of them! #TheThrillisNOTgone!

I meant not too cut up about not getting the group welcome haha. Definitely thrilled with the bass. It sounds exactly how I would want a late 70's Jazz with a B string to sound. And the preamp... Is there a more natural sounding pre on the market? Awesome design.
I see. I should have known that; sorry.

Welcome again though; we are glad to have you (again). :-)

I had my eye on this one. The old ones are much better than the new ones with the Aguilars and Hipshot Bridges

I've been gigging this for a couple of months now and I'm digging it more and more.

It definitely likes a 130-ish B string. Hearing a tone like this coming out of my rig makes me so happy :bassist:

BTW - does anyone know how to decipher an FBass serial #?

I'm looking for it stamped somewhere other than the ink stamp on the back side of the headstock - which is faint.

Thanks!

Let me know if you ever want to get rid of it!

The sound quality is decent on this. You can hear how this bass growls. Through M9 and Fbass 2x10.

Killer playing man! That bass is a growl monster.

I had briefly toyed with moving my VF5 after finishing a couple of gigs with my back just screaming last week, but using the thick F-Bass strap now seems to really distribute the weight better. I don't have any recordings up but these basses are smoking. They have that killer J bass growl and just slice through the mix without getting obnoxious.

I get that the be

I get that the BN pickups are strong, but the weird overtones and warbling only come from F bass strings. This is my 3rd BN bass and I've had the same results each time. I've put 4 different string sets on my BN4 over the last two weeks, just trying different stuff, and the only ones that had the overtones are the F Bass strings. I adjust the saddles to comp for the height too. I can't be the only one who hears this with these strings. I'm not trying to bag on the F bass strings, I was just telling about my experience with them and was curious what other guys are currently using.

No, you're not the only one, there are many other owners who have noticed the same problem. Fbass strings were probably originally designed for the AC models which use a much different bridge design. Just use your favourite full wrap strings.

F Bass strings weren't designed for F basses at all from my knowledge. They are Labella Super Steps in custom gauges made for F basses.
