Sorry for what I'm sure is a repeated question. Haven't checked in much since Andi said Moollon was overwhelmed with orders. Is it true that YJ discontinued all of the sparkle finishes? My dream Moollon was a Classic P Rootbeer Sparkle with tort guard
Yes! Sparkly finishes have been gone for a while.
One of the sellers is somebody who is occasionally active on this thread, and if you've followed his 5 pages of Moollon sales in the classifieds, you can see flipping Moollons is something of a side hustle. High asking prices for this guy is not a bug, it's a feature.
Can’t be as much fun these days as it used to be, given how shipping instruments these days has declined in value and increased in price.
Neither can it be as much fun for the used buyer. I got lucky and bought both my used ones for at or below new, but I don’t see much of that these days. People like this seller, who are this active in what is already a small market tend to raise the cost expectation by dint of their efforts to control most of the used product.
Oly and Anodized is a wicked combo.
Gotta say when the fellow I think you’re referencing started flipping Moollon’s, initially his prices were pretty reasonable. Many for 2K or under. I think as the wait time increased for a new one, he and others have been able to get above new pricing as the market and buyers have warranted.

Sure, market forces and all that. To be fair, the seller in question has nothing but positive feedback, so purchase away if you must have one now.
But there is a difference between trading/selling in a community where you're selling an instrument to finance something (usually another instrument, like most TB'ers), and selling at a profit, where the profit is the object. Neither is right or wrong, but I'm going to take note if I think you're in it to make money. For me, TB is the wrong context for profit-making.
Will prices ever become reasonable again, having crossed the Rubicon? I honestly don't know. Once the opportunism takes over, my concern is it changes it for everybody.
I believe the guy in question is a player as well as making an extra buck where/when he can. Think he actually owns a few Moollon's personally and they're his go to basses. Believe he loves em as much as the rest of us.
Believe in previous posts he asked Andi that if it was a problem that he would stop. Andi seemed ok with it.
Honestly, I've done that all of my career. Usually, buying low, playing the hell out of an insturment for a period of time and usually breaking even or selling for a profit. Hanging on to the inspirational pieces and chasing the tone tiger. As a musician whose only income is live or studio work an additional hundred or two here or an additional hundred there from a smart purchase or sale certainly doesn't hurt the pocketbook.
Personally, I've no problem with it.
I've two Moollon's that cover most everything. A PV and JV.
I feel bad for the folks who are coming late to the party and either have to pony up the current used prices or wait 3-4yrs for a new one.

Of course, and nowhere did I say it shouldn't be happening, only that on principle, I'm voting with my dollars in a particular way. That's all. That's the brilliant thing about capitalism; we all get to choose.
Free will, free market and all that jazz. That said, when over 90% of Moollon traffic is from one seller, my eyebrow goes up.
Wow. Nate Mendel is playing one now? Says a lot when a guy has his own Fender signature model and he chooses to play the Moollon.
