Club Moollon

Oh I know, my post was completely sarcastic as I know this person watches this thread.

He should probably have to change his TB status to a commercial user. His Reverb page alone makes it look like he's running a business. And his listings indicate cross-posting at TB.

i've been considering moving my moollon P. not sure i could justify selling for those high prices at this point, but am considering listing as a trade for a fender custom shop P. i'm more of a fan of the big necks and sadly my moollon has been going unused. I do have an order in for a tele bass which i'm sure will be a keeper. Its hard though cuz if i get rid of my P, i know I'll never get one back. hard decision.

I would try to hang on to it as long as possible. In a couple of years you’ll be able to trade it for a used Honda Civic.

Wish I had the money to give you for it right now....play what you want. I'm sure the Moollon folks would want that for you as well. All of these things are just tools to make music with.

Yup. Initially, I was fine with dude bringing more Moollons to the US market. Especially when he was asking market value or even slightly more than the median used price. Somewhat offset the wait time. Like you, Im all about the free market/capitalism etc. But lately his asking prices fall into the ridiculous category. Im sure someone with disposable cash and GAS will bite. But it just helps drive the prices out of reach for the majority of working musicians.

Had a few conversations with him. He seems nice enough and feel like he truly digs the brand. Just wish he would rethink his pricing.

My 2 cents...worth every penny.

A big part of the problem is that it’s the same guy in NY flipping most of them. Posted 3 of them over the last week in the TB classifieds all at inflated prices as usual. Even more inflated now that YJ finally raised prices a bit.

This guy is a known Moollon flipper and has been for a while, if you search for his threads in TB classifieds there are something like ~17-18 different Moollon listings. I understand the free market and everything… but I also think this guy is a disease to the Moollon community.

Every time you have someone doing something cool—like YJ pouring his passion into building these, and keeping prices reasonable so that they can get into the hands of musicians—you have someone like this guy on the other side of the spectrum trying to take advantage of it for their own personal gain. I think it’s pretty scummy but what can you do.

I agree, was also ok with the par value (or even slight profit) of a brand new one but this much of a markup is insane. He's on the Moollon Facebook Group as well and he's flipped quite a number of them, but the most recent Charcoal Jazz he got roasted for in the comments and took the listing down. I myself will take my P Classic to my grave with my actual '64.

I appreciate everyone's comments and input. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. I'm taking some of the complaints into consideration.

I don't think what I do takes anything away from what Young Joon and the guys at Moollon are doing. I have a lot of respect for what they do and what Young Joon produces. I am in no way stopping anyone from ordering directly from the company or working with them directly and I encourage you to do so.

I offer basses ready to go and with a markup so you can bypass the wait time. If you don't want to pay it, by all means order from the company, but as mentioned I will keep your guys' input in consideration. I feel the prices I have on the current 2 basses I have up are reasonable. Reverb.com prices will be a bit more because of their fees and that's why I usually cross post here at a lower price point.

As a buyer and owner of an instrument or any product or good, you're entitled to price it however you want when selling. I do realize people will have opinions about said prices. That's fine and that's why I'm writing this in response to what some of said here.

By all means if people are willing to pay there's a market at any price point. This said individual had a small back and forth conversation with Andi about all of this to some degree and it didn't change a thing which is why I said something here. That's where I'm coming from, I'm not the TB police nor do I want to start anything with anyone.

I did have a small back and forth with Andi when it became apparent that I was flipping Moollon's on the used market. I did say that I would stop what I do if he or the company said to and he did not say I needed to stop doing what I do.

I suppose on the surface it could be seen as personal gain, but how do you know what I do with the money and where it goes?

As you can see from my feedback I don't have any negative dealings. I strive to provide clarity, honesty and use professionalism in each deal that I do. I'm not a storefront or a professional business (other than having the Reverb shop), but I conduct my business as if it were and keep the Moollon name in high regard. I speak nothing but high praise for the instruments and Young Joon Park's artistry. Do I make money on the instruments I sell, yes, but I'm not misleading, selling anything fake, or being dishonest with anyone. It takes time, energy and resources to import and get basses listed and sent out. You can decide whether it's worth it to you or not.

While I respect capitalism, you can understand the suspicion. Looking at your Moollon Facebook Group listings you've sold 12 separate guitars since April alone, many of which with the pictures Andi provides to customers with their order. Given the photos from Andi in the listings leads most of us to believe you're in fact bulk ordering these, and if that's the case it absolutely does affect YJ as it clogs his workflow causing delays for everyone else. Which of course feeds the fervent demand for anything on the secondary market.

Yes, I understand the suspicion, but I’ve never ordered a new bass directly from Moollon. I got 1 bass from School Music in Seoul, the P i’m currently selling. Ever other instrument has been purchased on the used market. Thanks for helping to clear that.

Also I have never used “Andi’s photos” for my ads. I take all of my own pictures and each instrument is clearly represented.

I’m not sure the fact you’ve never ordered a bass direct from Moollon makes anything better.

You haven’t even been a patron of their actual business at any point but have sought to profit to this degree off of flipping their instruments on the used market? Seems strange on some levels, but yeah I get capitalism and arbitrage.

You, and anyone else, can do whatever you want. These are just opinions.

Frankly I don’t have a problem with anyone selling their Moollon for a premium price or whatever the market demands. My issue was that you’ve clearly gone above and beyond and have directly sought to corner Moollons on the used market as a little business to make profit for yourself. It’s to the point where a huge % of used Moollons go through your hands and get marked up, it’s almost like a used Moollon tax that goes to some random seller with no affiliation to Moollon.

I can honestly understand the ones that are imported from overseas more, that’s fair enough, but you don’t also buy, mark up, and flip any Moollon you can get your hands on in the states? If you do, what value are you providing other than value for yourself at that point? Someone else could’ve just bought it from the original seller and avoided wait time (and your additional markup). Again, you can do whatever you want.

I suppose on the surface it could be seen as personal gain, but how do you know what I do with the money and where it goes?
Seemed like personal gain to me. I don’t really care what you do with the money or where it goes. It seemed that you seek to buy up any possible used Moollon and flip it on the used market for profit as a bit of a business for yourself. You are the one receiving that profit. I normally wouldn’t care, but it’s to the point where you’ve listed far, far more Moollons for sale than you’d ever expect from any individual person or non-business. I’ve never seen a brand where one individual who has no affiliation with the company has sought to corner the used market and flip every possible instrument to this degree. Just all seemed strange.

Again though, you can do whatever you want. I do also understand the overseas import situation more.

Even though the overseas situation makes it now extremely hard for locals in Korea to get their hands on a Moollon, which also seems weird to me.. It seems it’s now as difficult to find one there as anywhere else, since the moment one goes up for sale it’s bought and often brought out of the country…
Everyone is free to do what they want, but that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to find it ethically correct :)

This makes it much worse. You’re profiting off of someone else’s hard work and artistry and they aren’t seeing a dime. That’s not a question, it’s a statement.

It seems like YJ has tried to keep prices as low as possible and it doesn’t sound like they make much profit, if any. Capitalism is one thing, but selling an instrument for almost twice the original sales price is just greed on your part.

Just my opinion, you do what you want.

This is kinda odd, the thread lately is full of people 'completely fine with capitalism', but having a massive issue with capitalism . I have no real horse in the race, just an observation.
I ordered my Moollon new when I was lucky to just wait 10months or so. It wasn't quite right for me after all, I couldn't quite settle the neck setup, so sold it for what I paid for it.
