Late May '21 order here. I've contacted Andi last October because I was originally quoted 18 months (which I didn't expect would still stand but it was a nice excuse to check in) and he replied YJ was at that time working on "a daunting list of autumn 2020 orders". So your order could be close to the top of the cue. Depends on Andi's definition of autumn. ;)

Het stated they couldn't give a new timeline for my order, partly because there are 3 dozen spring orders in the cue before mine. Oh well, I've bought another bass to keep me distracted in the meantime. :)

I ordered about a month before you, I bet mine is one of those 3 dozen.

Hi all, read just now of someone trying TI Jazz Flats on his Moollon P. That is what I stick to since for me they sound like no other flat string sounds and specially on my Moollon P. I have tried a few other including Dunlop and LaBella but none of them has that feel for me but this is a matter of taste!

Now let`s come to a question:
I use my precisions with flats all the time but I am intrigued to find how to obtain the sound of Ready Freddie Washington on my Moollon P without changing the pickup. I have been advised to try with Fender 7150 strings. Advices?

Are we talking "Forget-me-nots" or something else? That should be any decent nickel string available and the gumption to slap on a P with uncommon style and musicality.

Also, why would you want/need to change the pickup? The Moollon pickup is perfectly suited.

The Fender 7150s would work. Not a personal fave but any decent roundwound nickel string (an awesome technique) would do the trick. I prefer Dunlop Super Brights or DR Pure Blues. If you're a flats guy, you may like the EB Cobalt flats which sound a little more like rounds but are still flats. I had those on my Moollon P for about 5 years. No need to every swap out those pickups unless you looking for something with higher output or totally different EQ

I put a set in my Fender AVRI 57 PBass that had stock pickups which are actually really good. I'd say the difference was a more balanced tone overall and a bit more upper mid range. Not a night and day difference but def and improvement

Hello all,
New subject. I would like to conduct an informal poll. I hope you don't mind. I just purchased a Classic P with 3/4 of it's finish stripped off. It was gold. You may have seen the listing. I knew what I was getting into, as I am a woodworker, and have sprayed nitro, and have built a few guitars and basses. The body is alder. Although the stripping was done haphazardly and without stripping skills applied, now that it's in my hands, i can see that I can sand all of the offensive cuts and bruises out, as well as chemically strip the remaining gold paint without much effort. So, I have two choices in my mind about how to finish this bass:
1. Attempt to give it a natural finish, medium brown, which can be sketchy with alder.
2. Spray nitro in my choice of color, which at the moment is Desert Sand.

I plan to re-use the anodized pickguard.

What opinions do you have about my choices, or other choices and considerations?

Below is a photo I just took of the victim, sitting next to my Fiesta Red Classic P

Andi, please chime in if you're so inclined.

If it were my bass, I’d have it refinished by the best finisher I could find who has lot’s of experience with nitro in a color that matches one of the stock Moollon colors (like Desert sand). Primary reason being that’s probably the best way to maintain the value of the bass long term. If you don’t care as much about that and you have the skills, I’d go with option 2. Alternatively I’d go with a classic 2 color sunburst just cause it matches the late 50s gold pickguard and maple vibe.

I went the Desert Sand/Anodized Guard soft V route and I love it!!!

I have Moollon P 4 Classic and use the TI' Flats and agree with you, they really are a joy to play mated with exquisite feel of the Moollon neck and fretwork. And they hit hard but feel light.

As far as the Round round 7150's I have those on another old Fender P4 with Moollon pickups and they sound very large, Bell like, and even earth shaking. They are very nice strings, and a good value.
