Club Moollon

Just ordered today my Moollon P-Classic IV in desert sand color with white pickguard. Really exited. Now the waiting time...

Edit: Keith Duffy with the same color... COOL.

In my opinion, having owned (be it at different times) several Fender CS p and j basses as well as several Moollon p and j basses, the Moollons all have a better dynamic range and natural resonance. YJ’s pickups are magic and I believe that his tuner recipe makes a difference.

I also prefer the Moollon pbass nut width compared to Fender’s 1.75”

I scored this used Pclassic in November, it’s perfect.

IMO, the Moollons feel more like a vintage Fender than a new Fender does. I've played a couple CS's that were great, but were in the 'Alleva Coppolo money' ballpark and that comparison is a blowout, IMO. Never played a higher end production one (like an Elite) that I would have felt good about paying Elite money for.

The Moollons have a vibe that is hard to describe, but you feel it as soon as you pick it up. Somehow very vintage Fender-y while feeling more refined in all the right ways. I also think YJ's allure of a one man shop, and all his pre-CBS infatuation that extends into his knowledge of metallurgy and pickup making is a big line in the sand between him and other shops that make vintage/fender style basses. YMMV etc..

Btw what makes you Moollon owners wanting it more then Fender CS Basses? Just wondering, as owner and fan of both ways, why do you prefer Moollon. Diversity? Even more accurate preCBS approach?

My main bass for 15 years before getting my P-Classic IV, was a CS 64 Jazz. I had a rehearsal last weekend where I took both basses, thinking it'd bring something else out in my playing. First tune required slapping so I used my Jazz bass with rounds. I thought to myself, "Man, I need to play this thing more often". After switching to the Moollon later on it was apparent to me that the fit and finish of the Moollon felt better, but it's also MUCH more resonant than my jazz.

I really think it's the best value in Fender style basses. You would be paying almost double plus for a similar build quality from an American luthier.

Also YJ's passion for pre-cbs Fender's is apparent from the time you hold the instrument in your hands, let alone plugging it in and hearing how good it sounds. @Ultradust is possibly one of the best people I've ever worked with on a build from a customer service standpoint.

I'm putting a deposit down on a new Moollon soon. My biggest problem right now is deciding which model to add to the stable.

Everyone has nailed it. I've played a couple of CS's before and to me they didn't have any of the resonance or tone of a vintage bass. It was pre CBS in spec only. The Moollon...blown away by the resonance and tone from the first note. Finish is spectacular and you can tell the love that was put into the build. It feels more personal to me than a CS. Factor in that (at least to me) it's better than a custom shop and at half the price tag it's a no brainer. If I was in a position to by a CS I'd buy 2 Moollons instead!

I owned a CS that was beautiful. But the Moollons just have "good bones"

Mine both just feel 'lived in' in a way I didn't get from my CS. And not in a distressing way, more of the feel in hand. They both have that vibe and are less than 1 and 2 years old, respectively.

Considering all the praise they receive, these basses seem in the least reasonably priced, if not a deal. I’ve played some other American boutique “vintage copy” basses that made me gasp and scratch my head after looking at the price tag. I’d love to try one of these out.

My pair of used Moollons that I got for around 2k are an exceptional deal, when I compare them to other high end fender style instruments, let alone ones that come from a boutique/handmade/one man shop.

Edit: And Claimed!

Hey guys, wanted to let this group know first, in the next couple of weeks, i will be putting my P4 up for sale. Pictures attached. Wish I could keep it, but bills need to be paid and I don't need 3 bass guitars. Unfortunately, when the bass was shipped to me it incurred some additional damage on the body and case. So, my listing price will be around $1,900 shipped. So some damage on the original ship to me and then additional unfortunately during shipping.
The other caveat here is that the bass is currently 200 miles away (stored in a house we are moving from), but over the next few weeks I will be getting it back in my regular possession in order to sell and ship when the time comes.
So with that being said, if anyone would like to put a claim in now we can work out the details when I have the bass.
