Ok my Sadowsky breathren, I am having second thoughts on my Sad NYC order.
To recap, I own a Metro Will Lee in ash/maple and a NYC V4 in alder/maple with full size body and sc's. I just ordered a NYC Will Lee in alder/rw. It was going to replace my NYC.
However, I find myself thinking I should switch to a P body PJ setup with the Will Lee neck profile instead. Then, I would keep my NYC, which I am suddenly having 2nd thougjts on getting rid of. Since I just ordered a week ago, I figured it would not be a big deal for the shop.
Am I nuts? I think I can better justify the 3 with some more variety, not to mention not needing a non Sad P ever!

NOLAbass: Good call on the PJ. I think the WL + PJ covers a whole lot of sonic ground.
Any of my fellow Sadowsky owners using compression live? If so, what unit are you using?
I just started playing more heavy rock (the PJ KILLS for this!!!) and have been using compression again. I bought the Markbass Compressore -- great compressor, but it is bulky and has odd power demands.
What are you guys using?
Demeter Compulator added too much low end to my signal.

Really? Wow, I've never encountered that.![]()
Right.I think with all the ash/maple brightness going on, combined with the SC's, to my ears it was too harsh.
The HC's, at least in this bass, really lets the whole ash/maple sweetness come through, but leaves the honky/harshness behind.
Right.
This is usually the decision point for most people... at least from a strictly tonal perspective (as opposed to functional, like noise cancellation)...
The most common things I've heard, which I generally agree with, is when you play it solo, the ash/maple/SC thing seems almost too harsh, but when you put it in a mix, that edge helps preserve a nice high end profile in the presence.
However, even that can be a bit much for some folks who crave a sweeter tone, and that being the case, the HC's should do very nicely.
I still have the HC's that came in NYC 5249 and I'm keeping them. I do currently still have the SC's installed, but it was really more of an experiment to see how the chambered body compared to the non chambered body of my older NYC. Some people are more bothered by the tone of the HC's, but not me. I do generally prefer the SC's, but it's not like by night/day.
Anyway, FWIW.
Just emailed Kevin about it. That is the plan. After all, 3 Sadowsky's are better than 2!

I think you need a P5/PJ5 big time. So, lemme see, got the NYC JJ5, Valenti J/MM5 and a couple of Jazz 4's.........PJ 4 or 5 next????? Or Modern 5???
...and you shall have someday... I just know it.THAT's what I want/need!![]()
