'59 burst on ash, or flamed maple just like this: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is definitely the way to go in terms of finish IMO.
The NYC burst finishes are also a lot more to my liking than the Metro ones. They seem smoother than anything else I've seen when it comes to that type of finish. Don't know how does them, but awesome job nonetheless.
Gotta get a full review on the WL5 (if it's not April Fools' Day), Vic. Would love to know more in depth about it!

Ok, it's three hours away (in my time zone) yet, but I'm gonna' go ahead and call 4/1 BS on myself. Just so y'all know.
So it's true I didn't buy anything off the stock page, but it's also true I did buy something this past week.
I was gonna' give it through Sunday's worship gig to make sure it's exactly what I'm looking for before posting, but no need for that at this point. I've been hammering away at some mp3's and I already hear what I want to hear. Plus it's ash/maple... can't go wrong with that for me.
So without further adeu, here's the bass that basically combines my 24-fret Metro JJ5 and the quilt top 5249. The top is not as much in yer face as 5249, but to be honest, I think I'm gonna' enjoy this flame top as a little bit more of an understated elegance thing. But if you get close, it pops just as much as the quilt. It's really cool. Specs are pretty much identical to 5249 except this is a LIGHT one. It's only 7.45 pounds! And the B string is ALL THAT.
It originally came with a parchment guard, but of course I gotta' have my tort with the '59 burst, so that's what's on there now (and pictured obviously.)
It's got the newer Nordstrand based single-coils and the punch, clarity, and focus are just mind blowing. I'm using the passive tone control a lot on this baby. The low end is big and tight just like the other two ash/maple Sadowskys I own.
I'm a VERY happy camper...
The grain in the ash is super cool too... really straight and uniform. I'll get a shot of the back and post up.

Nah, Roger is the Man, and so is everyone in his crew, for that matter. Our own dragonbass did the final tweaks on this beauty, which I do enjoy the thought of, but really, it wouldn't have mattered who did it. They're all simply "that good."You the Man Vic!

I gigged my new NYC for the first time last night and it was quite a pleasant experience. Not much of a problem finding a tone that worked. I used both pickups, neck pickup only, active and passive, and brought down volume onboard for acoustic songs. The bass worked for every song. I'm thoroughly enjoying this bass!

Not much really, just noting which ones they are. Roger sources his 5 string J single-coils from a couple different vendors, Carey happens to be one of them, and I just happen to be kind of a personal fan of Carey's. No biggie. 4098 has the other singles in it and it sounds every bit as amazing as this one.

I get that it having the nice top and being a pound lighter makes it worth it, but do you think it offers much tonally different than your (now my!!!

WOW nice bass! Congrats Vic!! I'm amazed by the weight!!!
Never fans of Flamed maple but this one is absolutely eyes catching!!
