I still think most of "it" is in the fingers. The rest is gas pains.

So true....and so much is going to be based on the type of music that you play and the type of tone that fits. Yes you can play old Motown with a J-type bass but in so many ways it's just not the same.
Also you have to consider what ampage you are using. Running an SVT or a db359 compared to a Mesa M9/Shuttle is going to swing things in another direction, again.
I have been thinking that a JJ bass would be the Swiss Army knife. But then I got to spend some quality time with Bart's alder/BRW PJ4 and found something that I was missing. Consequently there is a very distinct possibility that a certain alder/BRW PJ5 might be coming my way.

M5-24 and was able to play it last night at a jazz gig. WOW!! I haven't had a 5er in several years and this was way fun.
But certainly in a good way.
