Do a search on past threads... I think some pics were posted here, but I don't remember how far back. Too bad he doesn't have this case up on their web site.

Nope. He's talking about the genuine hard case that Roger had at least for a while. Dunno if it's still an option or not.

Nice, but I have to say that if I had that, it would be neatly and safely tucked away in some storage corner, and I would be finding me a Portabag for toting the bass about. I'd bet that case is heavier than the bass itself.

I LOVE the portabag. So much in fact that it is getting beat to death as no matter which bass I snag to carry out, it goes in that case. The other cases only get used when I take two basses.

I have some of those big, bulky, rectangular hard cases for a lot of my basses. They're all in the basement. I use the Portabags for my Sadowskys, and the Protec Contego for everything else.

Of course not, but the real question is, how much abuse does your normal carrying case need to take? Personally, if I really needed max protection, I'd just go full ATA. Otherwise, for anything I'd carry around, the Portabag is plenty of protection. But I also always transport my basses myself. For me, having a case like this would only mean I'd feel better about shipping the bass to a subsequent owner, or maybe back to the factory for any work I'd need them to do. Otherwise, it'd be parked permanently in my basement.

I have a few of the old form-fit cases (with the zipper that goes all the way around) that look real nice propped up in the basement.........

My main bag is a Levi's Leather single bag and I also have a double by Reunion Blues.

If I travel I use the SKB case that has the rollers on one end. Sucks because I can only fit on bass in it though.

The portabag will protect better from a fall then a hardcase, because it will absorb some of the impact. It will protect less from compression (other stuff thrown over it for example)

The hard case also has durable padding on the inside, so I don't think this is true.

Short of putting it in a trailer or anywhere to travel that there is any chance of shifting, I can't think of any reason that I would want a traditional HSC over the Portabag. It's MUCH lighter, the shape makes it easier to get around, through doors, etc, the shoulder straps,. You name it, it's just way easier to use. And it's tough enough to stand a pretty good smack. I'd take a regular UL Sadowsky case over anything else, but the Portabag is preferred.

Plus, I have yet to knock a hole in my drywall with a Portabag.

I own the HSC, the portabag, the form-fit and the double Mooradian. The one I use the most by far for the day to day transport is the Mooradian. It's not the best protection but it's decent for that level of transport. With the double Mooradian I can bring two basses and it's close to the weight of one bass with the portabag.

If I need more protection then I always use ATA cases.

The HSC as never been used once yet.
