I have just this week revised my Sadowsky order to the following specs:
4 string
Body - swamp ash
Finish - olympic white
Pickups - single coils 70s position
Strings - Sadowsky ss black label (45 - 105)
Case - Sadowsky PortaBag
Pre-amp - Sadowsky with VTC and vintage style knobs
Neck - maple w/vintage tint
Fingerboard - maple with black block inlays
Pickguard - BWB
Hardware - Chrome with D-tuner

It should look a lot like this one

lowB, thank you for the info and the update.

I think that I have figured it out. And I feel a bit silly that I didn't catch this earlier.:hiding:

I have found that it is not the string that was just plucked that is making the knock sound. It turns out that when my plucking finger goes off of the string, in my case the E and the A, it is stopped on the next string up. Well the next string up is the one that is making the knock sound. I do deaden the next string up with my thumb (floating thumb technique) but it is close enough the the frets/fingerboard that it when it is bumped it makes the knock sound. This is why it happened whether the string was played open or fretted.

I fixed my relief on the neck where it has a slight bit of space and raised the E and the B string a smidge. Still a nice low setup, no buzz anywhere and NO KNOCKING. I also changed my technique a bit also.

I just L-O-V-E this bass! such a great P tone! I've been playing along some of the old stuff that was recorded with a Precision and it just works. And since there have been some posts on the Sadowsky 5-string neck being great...well I concur. It is just a pleasure to play.

Simply google, but I knew this bass player from Japan bass mag and I keep myself pretty update with Sadowsky's / bass community. Hope the info help. :D

Good deal. Glad you figured it out. These instruments ARE really nice. (been playing #3044 for 12 years now). Wish I could come down to Portland this weekend for the Watetrfront Blues Festival...looks like a ton of good players.

I've been (trying to) play bass since 1974 and have always been a maple-necked guy. I love my '06 MV4, of course.

However, last summer on a whim I bought a MIM Jazz with a rosewood neck and am finding that I kind-of like the less-harsh sound and feel of the rosewood. In October I also got a used USA Bob Glaub PJ with a rosewood neck and like that, too.

So, lately I've been jonesing to try an olympic white RV4, but I sure can't afford to have both of those Metros right now. Don't want to sell my beloved MV4 to finance the RV4 and then find out that it wasn't my thing after all...

Oh, well, just some early morning thoughts and ramblings. Anyone else out there find their tastes and preferences changed as they, um, "matured"?

Hey kiddies, I may be inclined to maybe trade my NYC JJ5 (with HC's, VTC and three pickguards) for a NYC Modern 5
You guys know my bass, so an equivlent Modern version (nice top etc....).

I'm not gonna post it in the classifides as such, just here for the club guys.

The opposite happened to me, I went from being a diehard rosewood fan to a maple user when I got my sadowsky.

So, does the placement of the new soapbars result in a different sound? I drew lines between two models (one with the older, one with the newer soapbars) and although the 'beginning' of the pickups is the same, due to the smaller shell of the newer ones, the 'center' and 'ending' of the pickups are placed towards the neck... So I wonder if they sound a little different...
