I have a NYC alder/maple with the full size body (#4666). Loaded with sc's. I'd say it has a bit more in the low mids then my ash/maple Will Lee. It isn't a huge difference though. I find the bigger diffetence in the top end, where the ash/maple WL really has a little extra spank there.
...forgot about that, too... both mine are loaded with SC's as well, and that is a factor.
johndough247, I can't recall... is yours loaded with SC's or HC's?
..anyone tried both sunbeams and blue nickels?
I'm using DR sunbeams & Sadowsky Blue Nickel exclusively on all of my basses. Tested both set on my NYC 5 string to find the best set to suit the bass, blue won because the tension and feel is simply better to me on the bass. My 2c
Hey so are you saying they sound almost the same? the only real difference is the feel and tension? I like lower tension strings (not floppy, but low), which had more tension between the sunbeams and blue nickels?
Hmm... For sounding, I preferred the Blue as well, not sure why, DR sounds a bit dark after a week - 2 weeks while the Blue sounds almost the same for a long time after broke in.
Blue got more tension.
fyi, I use
Blue 40-125 set
Dr 40-120 set
Ahhh gotcha...this pack (the DR) seems to be a custom set, it's 40 - 130, curious about that B string LOL
Will definitely try out the blue nickels soon, if the tension is the same as the blue SS then i'm cool with that.
I generally use Sadowsky Blue SS's on my Sadwosky's. I've tried the SunBeams in the past, but they were just too slinky for me with the combination of nickel plus the round core. I will be trying some other nickels soon, however. I love the Blue SS's, but lately I've been getting kind of on a nickel kick.Another element: SS or nickel? I have the blue label SS on now, I am at this very moment about to change them for some DR sunbeams, though i'm willing to try the Sadowsky nickels as well (I wish they sold Sad. strings in stores)...anyone tried both sunbeams and blue nickels?
It is the frost gold one on the right.
