Club Sadowsky!!!

Well, I got to take the new Sadowsky out for a spin tonight. I literally had barely had time to touch it until the gig. We are doing a regular Tuesday nighter for 6 weeks, so it is a great time to try gear. I brought my same exact rig as last week (Mesa Walkabout and Epifani PS210) so that the only difference would be the new bass.

NYC V4 PJ - Alder with Madagascar RW Board

Quite simply, it killed. First of all, the fit and finish are just beyond perfect. This bass feels feels deluxe compared to my others, I'm not sure what it is. Anyway, that might be in my head for all I know!!!

I was really curious if I'd made the right choice going PJ. I really did only bc I have two with SC's, so figured it made sense to mix it up. If nothing else, I'd string it with flats and use it for the P/flats sound. What I found immediately tonight was that this bass fits pefectly in the sound of this band. It is definitely a different sound than the J's. Playing just the P in passive mode really did a nice job of sounding like a passive Fender. However, I played the whole night active with the PJ centered. The stronger bass/fundamental just fits in so well with the band. It sounded more solid the whole night. It's a keeper! In fact, I peeled the plastic off after the first set!

I should mention that this band plays blues, roots, americana, country, new orleans, etc. Kind of eclectic. We usually have a keyboardist, but he was out of town for work.

If I was playing in my other band where there are two guitarists playing through Marshall half stacks, I think the bite of the Will Lee's single coils and ash/maple would be the best bass to go with.

WAY COOL Nola! Awesome rig you got there too. Nice and vibey with the Walkabout and Epifani cab I'll bet! And a Dr Z amp on stage too? You guys must be getting some great tones! Congrats!

Thanks. Our one guitarist uses the Dr Z and our other rotates between a Mesa, a Fender VibroKing and a modded 50's Bell and Howell. A band full of gear heads is lots of fun!

Nice, NOLA bass!

I have a WL as my #1 for my classic rock band but also have a PJ that was my #1 before the WL arrived. While I slightly prefer the tone of the WL for rock, the PJ in some ways was the more versatile bass, and really worked well for a wider variety of songs. It really is a great bass and I always loved how full it sounded in the mix. I used to run it as a passive P once in a while but I normally ran it like you did - both pickups on full, active, and I added just a touch of bass boost. Great sounding bass. I should gig it more often.

I know I've asked this before, here once and with Kevin about 1700 times, but has anyone heard ANYTHING about a possible Metro Will Lee 5 string? Going to my recently acquired Metro MS5 (1 7/8 nut) from my NYC PJ5 (1 3/4) makes me realize how much more I prefer the narrower nut.

It applies to both NYC's and Metro's.
