HI

We use the Aviom system at my church gig, also. I used the in ears they supplied for a while but i have small canals and the kept popping out when I sang a high note. I switched to Shure E3's. Dont sound quite as good but with the yellow foams they never pop out of my ears. Wish my ears were bigger, wouldnt have these issues. My basses sound killer thru the Aviom system. I use an amp on stage to warm up things for the others, particularly the drummer. They all like it better with an on stage amp mixed with the in ears

Try the triple flange inserts. Very comfortable and will adjust to different size ear canals and provide great isolation.

I tried them and after a while even they bothered me. The "umbrella" shape is better, but still not nearly as comfy as that soft expanding foam Comply uses. BTW, Comply makes tips for multiple brands of plugs, including Shure, so check ebay for pricing/avail. It's usually about $15-20 shipped for 3 pairs. They make at least two, maybe three different sizes as well.

The yellow/orange foam that comes with the Shure's is not too bad, but still not as great as the Comply stuff. Seriously, try it!

Cool, I have westone molded ear plugs right now. I'll have to check out the UM2s.

Well, beware, they pretty much cost $300 new. However, that's still a bunch cheaper than the Shure "comparables", which are the E5's, which are something like $400-500 or so I think.

Another one to consider in the "affordable coax" arena is the Ultimate Ears stuff. I've never tried them, but they seem to get very favorable reviews.

Again, tho, while I can't contrast/compare to the above, I can definitely say I'm completely satisfied with those UM2's.

I've heard (even though they didn't fit perfectly) a set of the $900 UE's, vs. my $300 UM2's.

There ain't no $600 difference, I can tell ya right here! ;)

Get the UM2's, spend $50-75 on custom tips, and you have a pro setup, ready to go!

Not to get too far off topic but I HIGHLY recommend the Future Sonics ATRIO. Future Sonics more or less invented in ear monitoring about 20 years ago with their high end system and Marty (Garcia, the founder of Future Sonics) is an absolute genius. They have gone away from multi driver armature (hearing aid!) systems to a single studio grade dynamic driver. No crossover! No Phase anomalies, no time correction or alignment! TRUE response from 18hz-20Khz!!! I used the original Future Sonics rigs back with Steve Miller and the B-52s in the early 90's (at $10,000 per mix!!!) and these are better than what we had then for $199.00! I have a pair of the Onyx Black ones that I use almost daily. I also have Shure E-3s, E-4s, and E-5s and the ATRIO costs less and sounds about 1,000,000 times better than anything I have ever tried....Did I mention they only cost $199.00?

If you really want the best there are then the Future Sonics Ear Monitors (the ORIGINAL Ear Monitors and the reason we call them In Ear Monitors today!) are at the top of the heap IMO. They are pricey but there is noone even close out there to what you get with these. They used to cost $10,000 about 20 years ago and included the entire system, the transmitter, a Compellor (limiter), the beltpack, and the buds themselves.

There are none better at ANY price in my experience and in my opinion.

BTW- I am not affiliated in any way with Marty or Future Sonics. I don't officially have (and don't want) an endorsement deal with anyone. I pay the same prices for my gear that anyone would but I like to let people know what really works and my experience with the gear.

And of course you can always just get both and switch at will. :D

Had the single coils put in by my tech, and he said "man, these are HOT!"

Looking forward to tomorrow's gig when I plug into the SVT backline and pulverize the guitards. They MUST be destroyed! :smug:

Interesting. I respect your recommendation, I might actually give these a try. Wonder if anyone provides a return policy on these, though that would be pretty gross. :D As the only in-ear style headphones I have ever had are $12 Koss, anything should be an improvement. My HD-280 pro's are starting to distort at 10 years old now (at any volume) so probably time to pick something up.

We had a little GTG at my house a couple of evenings ago, and our buddy Burk brought over his new/used MS5. It's pretty sweet! Moderate weight (I assume it's routed), BIG eye birdseye board, and a very subtle quilt top. He has HC's in it now but I think he's putting in single coils. The pickup cover is held on with double sided tape... so no holes in that beautiful top.

Cool bass!

WOW!!

Do you know where he picked that up from? I might have owned that at one point...

That birdseye board was INSANE!
