Club Sadowsky!!!

Well, I just got back from Bethlehem PA where the backline on our Musikfest stage was an SVT-CL and an 810. Although I far prefer my Aggie DB410/AG500 stack, it was pretty frickin' sweet. The new single coils sounded HUGE. Third time I've used the SVT-CL/810 as backline this summer and my NYC Standard 5 sounds great with that rig. I do miss a nice snappy tweeter though.

I won't make the final decision that the SC's are gonna be permanent until I use my own rig, but I suspect they're staying. The B in particular is off the hook.

Well, I lurked too long again today. I spoke with Roger today and put down a deposit on another Sadowsky! This time, a 24 fret, 5 string. Ash body, with 4A spalted maple top and birdseye maple board, vintage tint, Sadowsky soapbars and black hardware. 5 months and counting! Maybe it will be here for my birthday which is 5 months from now..almost to the day. Sounds like a good 40th to me!

It will look very similar to this one.

The only difference is mine has the Nordstrand Big Singles. Either way, you can't go wrong!

I was wondering if someone on the board had that one. Pretty cool. I kept going back and forth...4A quilt top w/caramel burst or 4A spalted w/birdseye board. We see what won! I even thought about the big singles but opted for the soapbars in the end.

Once Roger gets me some shots of the body, I will definitely post them. I am sure it will be a while though. I can always hope it's early. :)

Definitely different beasts. Having just sold one of my Smiths...The Sadowsky Modern definitely has more "bite" to it. The Smith is a bit more "subdued" but still with some grit. The neck on the Smith is really fast and nice though. You can't go wrong either way.

Dang, Kevin, that totally KILLS! Then again, I know EXACTLY what you mean. ;) :D

BTW, the sound guy in the new church gig I play in absolutely freaks when I bring my 24F-5. He LOVES how it sounds in his mixes, and I must say, it sounds pretty darn good in the Aviom with my UM2's too. :D

I appreciate your dilemma (on picking the top). That spalted is awesome; but I love those caramel bursts as well. Really, you just couldn't go wrong whichever way you went.

Hey guys/girls, a little question here,
My MV4 is lighter than most Metros weighting around 8 lbs. As my back really likes it, the neck has a dive due to the lighter body. Is this common with NYC basses or other lighter Metros? I thought of relocating the back strap pin to a higher spot.
Any thoughts?

My NYC 5 string J is a bit over 8 pounds. No issues w/ neck dive at all. It is probably the best balancing bass I have. I do use a nice wide Moody padded leather strap or a comfort strap though. What kind of strap are you using?

I have couple of wide leather straps... good enough. The weight is great, balance is not so much. It's not really bad, I'm just used to other basses that balance better and I was wondering if there's a way to improve it.

I was reminded last night how great Sadowskys sit in a mix. We were playing a pretty decent sized festival last night... big enough to have both a mains mix and a monitor mix with separate mixer boards and sound guys, and a pretty good sized set of mains and stage. I took three basses with me. Zon, Warwick, and the NYC 24-Fret. IMHO, the Zon and Warwick also sounded great, but at the end of the night, the sound guys both came up to me and asked "what was that last bass you played... that thing sounded awesome".

I know this post is in the club thread, so "preach -> choir" here, but there really is something very significant and real about the whole "Sadowsky in the mix" thing. This is really not helping my NYC JJ5 GAS tho... :)

So I just got my M5-24 back and I'm a lot happier with it now. The VTC helps a lot. I see myself playing with it at least 50 percent on most of the time. Definitely changes the sound a lot!

I was also impressed how well I was able to cop Stuart Zender's streamer stage one tone... the VTC helped a lot in that regard.

Also, straplocks with the sadwosky neo strap make it a BREEZE to play, makes it feel like air!
