You know what is interesting, I spec' a bass EXACTLY like that (NYC, poly neck finish, routed ash, quilted top, black hardware, big eye maple birdseye board) and ended up canceling the order given that I ended up prefering the Vintage models. I wonder if that is the bass, since I believe they made it anyway.

It's a beauty. I don't dig the pickup cover either, but since it's taped on, I guess it's not a big deal.

We had a little GTG at my house a couple of evenings ago, and our buddy Burk brought over his new/used MS5. It's pretty sweet! Moderate weight (I assume it's routed), BIG eye birdseye board, and a very subtle quilt top. He has HC's in it now but I think he's putting in single coils. The pickup cover is held on with double sided tape... so no holes in that beautiful top.

I believe I used to own that one (#4540)... I knew it would look good with the black cover. I never put one on though.

I was concerned about the HC pickups as I generally like single coils. They still have some good "dirt" to them. I am VERY pleased. My wife came in last night and saw it on the wall and said "Wow, that is VERY pretty, I like it!"

I'm getting into a lot of Stuart Zender's playing in my lessons. I was playing Virtual Insanity and Mr. Moon going back and forth between my stingray with flats and my fender jazz. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed a metro 5 jazz ASAP. Definitely not an ultra vintage, but I can't decide between a MS5 or a MV5. I'll keep an eye on the classifieds and see what happens. I also need to fix and sell my fender jazz (bridge pickup decided to go on strike a few months ago).

I've also been sadowsky-less for 3 weeks now. I think I'm deep into separation anxiety.

I have a fine collection of covers and ashtrays. If I didn't want to keep my old Fender P 100% original, I would dump those stupid things on eBay in a second.

P.S. Amazing wood on the body though. One of the best Sadowskys I have seen.

This may not be my good sense speaking, since I haven't even touched my Sadowsky in... over 3 weeks. But the way I interpret my modern is a much more well controlled stingray. It has the same mid-bite, but isn't as grindy.

I can never sell my stingray, since it was a gift from my parents and has a lot of emotional value to it. I feel that the modern makes the stingray redundant.

Would it be crazy of me to trade the modern for a MS5 or MV5? I really want that jazz sound... nothing else in the world like it.

I don't think so.

I've been playing my M5-24 the last week or so to really really try and like it... It's ok, but I force myself to play it. I'd rather pick up my MTD.
I donno if I'll be keeping it forever.

I haven't picked up my MS5 OR NYC Jazz 4 in a couple of weeks either. This is due to my Stingrays sounding so much better IMO through my SVT-CL. I go through stages and really notice the difference with Sadowskys and different amps. My Sadowskys sound amazing through my Markbass F1... not so good through my SVT.

The MS5 is more traditional than a Modern.... but it is definately NOT a Fender Jazz.:)

I sometimes play sadowskys through an SVT and I don't necessarily agree with this statement. I feel as if the SVT amp is not very articulate, so the nuances of the Sadowsky pre are a little lost. To me, it still sounds nice. With new strings, sometimes I can dial in a Timmy C like tone with a Sadowsky.

The MusicMan seems more like a wrecking ball through the SVT and it produces a girthy tone. Since the F1 is a very clear amp, it can take advantage of the the subtleties of the Sadowsky. I love my Sadowsky through my DB750 and through other clean amps.
