Bluesy: check out the AudioKinesis TC112/TC115.
Several folks are using those for studio monitors, and juuuuust coincidentally, they double as a dang fine bass cab.

My guitarist just bought those. We spent a helluva long time at the store trying out speakers. They seemed the best to us. There were some really nice JBLs there as well.

The screen is 120" diag. Those tower speakers are as high as my shoulders and I am 5'2".

The sound system is no slouch either. The dbl subs and towers, center, and rear surround ROCK the house!

I use some old Sennheiser cans. We live in an apparent, and the neighbours get all up in our faces if I use any kind of amplification. Once we have a place of our own, I'm getting the same speakers.

It came down to getting fed up with inconsiderate people at the public theaters.

In some ways, I ended up building my theater BECAUSE I have a kid. This is my daughter, sleeping peacefully:

That's her as seen on my night vision camera, which allows me to monitor her sleeping, as most of her seizures occur at night. And while my sweet daughter is sleeping, Daddy is seen here about to go on a homicidal rampage on Grand Theft Auto 4 on the big screen:

It's a 92" screen (diag), since the room is so narrow, but it's still plenty big. I put some bass shakers/transducers in the couch to supplement the sub for night viewing. Did all the design, planning, construction, installation, etc. myself, with the sole exception of the new dedicated ceiling outlet for the projector, which I had installed by a licensed professional. Movies are fantastic, sporting events are great (even found myself watching the Masters), and gaming is fun too (golf and bowling on the Wii on a big screen is a blast!).

As for speakers, I'm almost as much a fan of Paradigms as I am of Sadowsky and Bergantino.

I also think you should get out and on stage. I was in the same position you were several years ago; I mostly just played along with whatever was on TV (great practice for the ear!), and thought I'd never be good enough to gig. Then I sat in on a couple of easy songs with a friend's cover band, and that eventually turned into a sub opportunity for him, and later a permanent gig when he moved away. It's "just a cover band," but it fits my chaotic life, and I've got three gigs coming in the next two days, so I'm not lacking for stage time despite my daughter's complications. I never thought I'd be in a band, but I've now been doing it for nearly four years, and over 200 gigs. Up until five years ago, I'd never been in a real band, let alone up on stage.
Cripes, they've now even got me singing lead on some songs , and I couldn't sing or say a single word while playing bass just a few years ago.

Sounds like you're good enough to start sitting in, and the more of that you do, the easier it becomes and the more fun you'll have. Rock on.

Ahh nice! That setup looks great! Where do you play the Sad?
That screen is a Stewart! Is it a Luxus Deluxe Firehawk G3?

I mostly play in another room where I have a little mixer with a mic and an iPod set up, with headphones. Great way to learn songs. I should set it up in my theater due to the soundproofing but I'd have to get organized. It's a small room.

It is a Stewart Firehawk with the black velvet coating on the frame. Can't remember the exact model because I bought it around 2003. I was into home theater before I got back into bass.

I use Ultimate Ears Triple Fi in ear monitors for mine. I was in a similar situation as Roadkill for a few years (and sorta am now, wife likes the house quiet, lol) and the UEs are even, flat, uncolored, and have great response and will give you a good mix. You can get them on Amazon for $175 or so. That's my 2c

PS: Just as another point of interest - If you watch closely right after Neil Young's performance you can see Bill Graham in the light coloured clothes - as Neil walks off stage - to the left of Rick D.(& Ronnie Hawkins' hat ) . Bill was the guy behind the Fillmore East & Fillmore West, where stuff REALLY happened in NYC & S.F. & he was involved w/ this farewell concert also.

thanks Fran , I go thru a avelon pre amp and right into the board from there , keys go right in and drums are miked , I dont use my amp in that room , the strings on that bass right now are dr low riders ( nickel ) I have my Sadowsky blue lables coming any day now and will put those on , I just recently got a Genz Benz streamliner 900 head and love that thing , and I have for years used Bergintino cab's , That group is fun , we have never giged and have quite a few original tunes , we always warm up before hitting the songs with a improv jam like the one I posted , those are always a adventure , hopefully we will gig one day , one of the wifes named us the Stuckeys , were stuck in the room I guess , o well one day , we have mucho fun though and call it our musical gym where we go to work out once a week , for about 4 years now , were all in other groups we gig with
