Club Sadowsky!!!

Not to derail the thread, but I have a quick question for the Sadowsky faithful. Do you guys/gals have trouble with the outer wrap of a lot of strings wanting to wrap around the post on the b-string tuner? I know this is not a problem with Sadowsky strings, but I like to play around with new strings sometimes, but this seems to be a recurring problem.

Yeah, they are cut a bit long, I do that to see if I like the string on that bass and if not I can use it on another. I was mainly talking about how the fat part of the b-string wants to wrap around the post. This causes alignment problems at the nut and just looks bad. These are the new DR Dragon skins btw.

Looks like that type of string would have to be cut a lot shorter since it is so thick around the post thru to the nut. There is no taper. Are these the right scale length?

Just a reminder that the DR coated strings are not conductive.
It defeats the purpose of the bridge ground and may cause you excessive hum problems.

I have an article appearing in the next issue of Bass Gear Magazine to discuss this problem.

Interesting...I did not think of that; however I have not noticed any hum issues. I will keep that in mind. I already took them off of that bass and threw them on a different one. I will have to check that article out, I am not very informed when it comes to electronics or grounding issues. This is my first experience with a coated string at all. I had heard mixed reviews and wanted to see first hand. I do like the "muted" treble response that they have, but the b-string not fitting was a killer for me. I'm back to your blues.

All good points about the string needing to be cut shorter. Either way though, the outer wrap of that particular string will still be around the post regardless of how short you cut it.

They are pretty great. :)
I'm currently using blue label steels but recently bought a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinkys just to try. Once I get my home recording rig set back up I plan to record samples of all the strings I have lying around (including black label rounds and flats) for fun and reference.

I would think a typical "long scale"/34" string would not have the outer wrap extend much past the nut, are these intended for a 35" scale bass perhaps?

I've had the opposite problem when I put a D'Addario "long scale" on a 35" scale bass and the outer wrap stopped between the first fret and the nut!
