Just depends on whether the string set is designed longer to accommodate 35" scale instruments, which most, if not all, DRs are. It's not really a problem. I've run into this a lot on many basses and never had any issues with tone or tuning.

(drool bucket being well utilized here)Well, it's here. It arrived while I was at work to-day, but I've only got 'round to opening it up now (20h00 or so). It's going to be sweet to take the 'in waiting' off of the club number in my signature.
It weighs *nothing.* Like, my cats weigh more than this 8.15-lb bass. I was also surprised by how small it is. I shouldn't have been; I know that the body is more of a dinky-J size, but I still did a virtual double-take. It's really very nice.

I just have to say that one of my internet highlites is when I log into my computer and there's an email from Sadowsky telling me there are new ones availble. I click on the link and I treated, once again, to more stunning looking basses that I would love to own.

Allright, heres my new Sadowsky that I'm picking up on Friday... It's an Original P-5 with a Brazilian fretboard in Copper Metallic finish and matching headstock with single coils and I believe mother of pearl dots.. It has the tortoise shell guard on it, but a mint one will also be included..

I often wonder why this is so unusual. I'm short so jazz basses look weird on me, so I much prefer the Precision body shape, which means I always play Precisions or PJ's, but I very rarely (if ever) see a Precision body loaded with J pickups. Some people say the Jazz body adds something to the classic Jazz sound, I wonder if that's actually true. I'm tempted to buy a cheaper Precision and put a couple of jazz pickups in it to try this combination just to see what happens.
I highly doubt that the body shape (between a P and a J) can make a difference in tone.
I agree. So why do you think this combination is not more popular? Is it tradition?
Not a Sadowsky owner ( hopefully someday ) but I did install Roger's preamp in a different Jazz bass (NON VTC). I have one question.
How important is the VTC to you? The other side of it would be does anybody NOT use it.
I like the way it sounds just fine, but if a $75 investment can make a big difference I see no reason not to do it.

I use it all the time; one of two ways:
Roll a little back, for the usual passive tone reasons...
or,
boost active treble a bit, cut passive tone a bit, for a brighter tone that "retains some sweetness to it."
I'm sure other folks do things differently than I do.

Sometimes I roll it back quite a bit with the P pup soloed for more "old school P" sound with it it set to passive since I use steels.
