Thanks, Blair. Yeah, Kevin and I just found out last year that we share the same birthday and year.
He is still the older one by 4 hours! We've been sending zingers back and forth for weeks!

Just curious - in general, how do you guys feel about Ash / Rosewood spec Sadowsky JJ's?

I know the more popular is the Ash/Maple & Alder/Rosewood... just wondering your thoughts and Ash/Rosewood combo?

I played this at the shop (sadly, it had a sold sign on it) and it killed! 9lbs, Ash, Madagascar Rosewood

My favorite wood combo, driven mostly by my love for 70s p basses. That's what I'd order for an NYC. Just got a Carvin sb5000 ash/rosewood and it's great, but it not a sadowsky.

Yeah, its not as common as the other combo's - but I loved it. I played one at the shop and it was just awsome.

The ash yielded the punch and liveliness, while the Rosewood board fattened it up a bit with warm give for fingerstyle play (which I play 99% of the time, not a big slapper).

Kevin - enjoy your time off mate! And I'm sure I can speak for everyone when I say we appreciate all your hard work, time, and dedication over the years.

I have a '74 Jazz that's Ash Rosewood and the tone is amazing. I think you described the combo perfectly. I think it's an underrated wood choice.

Pains me to do so, but I've got some medical AND credit card bills that need paid. Not to mention in 4 or so agonizing months my NYC Modern Fretless 5 will be done!!!




Bought this brand new from Bass San Diego in March and it is a light weight for this model at just a hair over 9lbs

Willing to bet that Roger sells more J-inspired models than anything else. My guess at least.

I love the 24 fret 'Moderns'. Very midrange-forward and aggressive tone. The NYC fretless I have coming in is to me the best of both worlds: Modern pickup spacing but with a PBody and 20frets.....because Jaco only needed 20 frets!!!

Honestly, I just think it's because Sadowsky caters more to the straight up working bassist, not the exhibition class million licks a second ooh-la-la soloist. Same reason he doesn't make a 6 string.

I was noticing that I'm acquiring a fair bit of wear in two spots on the back of the neck right behind the third and fifth fret. It's on my WL, which is the one I take to all my gigs.
