Fran - Great shot. Love the vintage tint and black pick guard combo. Do you use flats or rounds on that P-bass?

Are you still playing through the AG500 + DB112? I've been very happy with that setup myself, although I do find myself looking at the Tone Hammers and SL cabs...

Just bought a Metro MS-4. Very resonant sound, without even plugging into an amp. The shop (Gelb Music) allowed me to compare it to a Fender Am Deluxe...the Sadowsky definitely had more bottom end to it, without even touching the bass boost. Just to get the Fender match, I had to turn up to the midpoint on the bass boost.
Took it to rehearsal and to tweak the VTC control and pan control to fit in the mix. May need to change to flatwounds since the present strings are a little too bright for blues...or I will just play them for awhile, until the brightness disappears.
The bass has a natural finish over the ash body, with a maple board. Plays really nice.

Apologies as I realize this has been covered, but searching these lengthy multiple threads for something conclusive isn't yielding for me.

I have an NYC J 5-string that lately has become my go-to bass, gigging nearly every Fri & Sat. I have it in my head that the pickups are h/c and indeed they seem quiet, I'm just wondering if there's a way to tell for sure by looking or by popping them out?

Also what's the consensus on the tonal differences? I recall reading people seemed to agree it made little if any difference in the mix.

How is "Sadowsky" pronounced? I'd expect "Sa-DOV-ski" but has it been anglicised to "Sa-DOW-Ski" like DOW Jones or like Homer Simpson's "DOH!".

Thanks Vic ! Ordered some SC a while back to drop in, but I have not had the time to drop them in. I get great compliments on the tone live and in the studio. Easy to dial in a great sound.... Just Plug and play !!!

I believe it's "sad-oh.that.sounds.great-ski". really though it's pronounced with the dow sound. like Dow jones

I have played both single coil and hc equipped sadowsky basses and can't tell much of a difference personally. That being said I've never played the same bass with both, or two identical basses with different pups side by side either. The basses I've played were different wood combos. So my experience is limited.

thanks and yes, Sadowsky flats. I tried three or four times to go back to Blue nickels but that was like two years ago;) Roger's flat are simply amazing.

Still using the AG500SC->2xDB112 setup, I love how it sounds; I also thought about the TH500+SLs, but I couldn't justify the hit in my pocket when this rig gives me such a great tone.

My reasons are probably not valid as I'm sure Roger's dealers have been well vetted and are more than competent, I just always kinda felt that way. Maybe that's why the dealers get the lion's share since others may feel the same.

I special ordered my Metro PJ thru Kevin at the shop. It was shipped from Japan to the NYC shop where i had them change the strings from blues to black labels and put on another pickguard. They then shipped it to me.

Open the control cavity and look at the wires. HCs have 3 wires, red/green/grey. Singles will have 2 (not sure what they are for sadowsky singles).

On the 5 string the HCs are more polished and a little scooped. Singles have more grunt and lower voiced (but still strong) highs. On the 4 strings its harder to tell the difference IME.

I also believe the HC pickup covers are gloss black while the SC pickup covers are matte black.

That's because I think they're based on different brands/models of pickups than the 5's. Others have commented similarly about the rules on the 5's not applying to the 4's.

Truth, at least on all the 5's I've seen to-date with both models of 5s HC's, though I'm not sure if that's assured to always be the case.

Also, at least in the case of some pickups, you can pull the covers off and see two coils vs one. A little more work to get that view, but always a guaranteed verify if you can.
