Club Sadowsky!!!

here is my older Franklin suede strap:

The only thing negative on the suede strap is that it pulls the shirt whereas the neostrap does not. I like that part!

Have you could looked into a Moody Strap: all-leather, 2-1/2 wide, smooth back, soft and comfortable?

@ Bluesy - maybe look into one of those padded strap sleeves that slide over the strap. Many carry bags/gym bags have them. Some guitar straps use them, too, so maybe there's a source to buy just that part. You'd just need to find one with slits wide enough to fit around the end of your neostrap.

Of course, a Moody leather strap (leather backed, not suede) would be an ideal solution, albeit expensive. I have 2 of them to go along with my 1 Sadowsky neostrap.

And as noted previously, using duct tape to cover the sharp edges would be the best solution if you're playing metal or punk!

My favorite strap is the Levy's Bass strap:

I use it on all my basses, including my HEAVY Warwick Dolphin... I highly recommend it...

I've been through a LOT of straps, and I keep coming "home" to these. I have three at this point that are absolutely sublime. Slip just the right amount to not grab clothes, but still hold well enough, soft, just enough padding to be comfy without being stiff enough to cut into my neck.

Thing is, I've been to the Levy's booth and the leather varies some on these, where some of them might start off kinda' stiff and require some break in. Worth it tho. But some are soft right off the rack, so if you're lucky, you might get one of those.

These are what I use.

fwiw, I did try the Sadowsky/comfort strap. Well done product, not my thing though.

Ultimately, I flipped mine... fantastic values and surprisingly comparable to the Moody straps (their obvious target), but as soft as they tend to be, I just like the round edges and modest padding in the Levy's myself.

Roger,
I've also tried several of the Neo straps and while they're ok, I also have had a little bit of an issue with that "cup"... at least for the top horn attachment, which is what Bluesy had issues with.

I wonder if it would be possible to shorten that and "soften" it at the same time by using a leather triangle with the strap button hole as the Neo binder as well, instead of the plasticky cup with a nylon strap to the leather strap button triangle?

The end that goes to the bottom of the bass is a non-issue, but in some cases, that "plasticky" cup can bite a bit especially if you wear the bass kinda' high.

Thanks for the feedback...I am already working on a redesign.

I will be listing on the store very soon 100% woven cotton straps in black in both 2" and 3" widths. I have always loved cotton straps but it took forever to get the material in a 3" width.

Soon I will be adding a very soft garment leather strap as well.

Choices are good, thanks!

Excellent, on the 3-inch weave! My favorite strap is an old woven "Silver Eagle," that is starting to show it's age. The only thing I don't like about this strap is that length adjustment is via that old-school "slot and strap" system, as compared with the flexibility and ease of a sliding adjustment mechanism.

Also intrigued by the strap design at post#351 of this thread - if I'm getting this right, it looks like this design works better than most for someone who holds the bass high up, or favors a more vertical position.

I recently injured my left shoulder. While that's been healing and I'm waiting on a Sub 8lb jazz-like bass to arrive I've been thinking a lot about straps.

A long time ago I purchased a strap that I'm going to try again or possibly use as a base to have something made.

It has two things that make it unique. One is a pivoting junction right at the end that attaches to the upper horn. The way the angle the strap is forced to make a to twist 90 degrees is now gone. The higher you wear the bass the less strap distance the strap has to make this twist causing more consequence to it. That twist creates a imbalance in strap pressure on the shoulder. More so on the side towards the arm, away from the neck.(Is this where your struggling Bluesycat?) If your healthy and strong it's possible that distributing the pressure away form the neck is a good thing? I also have noticed that my old school "comfort strap" leather parts are very supple. So if that part is long on your strap it will minimize the advantage of this juncture thing. The other difference is that the whole piece of leather is cut with a curve at the end accommodating the natural curve that the strap wants to take.

The strap as is is too short for me. But I like the ideas.

Fascinating strap! Wondering if the curve would have to be custom-fit for the user, or could otherwise be standardized if there was length adjustment on both ends of the strap, so as to get that curve dialed into the right location for each user. And the horn-side pivot seems like a really great idea.
