Club Sadowsky!!!

Thanks folks.

No pickguard will even be considered. I'm literally more or less duplicating that bass pictured. Like Ken said, "modern". I've already got the straight up J thing covered... WELL covered... with 4098. I've played a lot of these things at this point, and it kills them all. Done.

But that leaves me still with the desire to have a much more "modern" J kinda' thing. I bought that amazing ash/spalt/ebony 24-Fret 5 from Ken a while back and just loved the snap from the ebony board, but that design is just a little too far modern for me... gotta' have my J style pickups/locations. So I got my previous flame top MV5/24 ash/maple J, but sold that one to get this one with ebony, which should do the trick nicely.

Speakin' of wood... got some teasers today I wanna' share... :)

serious wood !!! The ebony board looks so good w/ that burst. How soon is this beauty gonna be in action?

mmmmmm ebonnnny mmmmmm
Yeah, and the pure black boards are at a premium at this point. As much as I DO like the looks of the figured/multi-colored ebony that's being used more now, I just wanted the all black playing field for this one.

If anyone is not familiar with the whole ebony thing, Bob Taylor is leading the charge on something we shoulda' done a long time ago. Major props to him. Here's the story...

I've started another thread about this but thought I'd just post my questions here as well.
Just wondering if people who tried both models and gigged both can tell me the differences in feel and inherent sound between the two?

I'm looking for a very tight, quick but meaty sound usually blending about 10-20% towards the bridge pickup and occasionally blended in the middle with both pickups for some Slap.
I like to sit right somewhere just above the kick drum and the middle of a mix.

Which model has a more "C" shaped neck and a shorter reach up the neck towards the nut?

I know the pup location is different for each model and the UV70 will be a little heavier because of the bigger body. Do these differences affect the playability and sound that much?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful.

I was just looking at your pics and your included pic of 5956. And I thought, "Hey, 5956 sounds kinda familiar" I just went back and checked my original email to Kevin & Roger. Turns out 5956 was also the starting point I used to come up with this:

You will love it! Enjoy!

Woah, NICE. :bassist: You know, I did consider doing soaps in those positions, but just eventually decided to stick with what I know on this one.

Totally agree about it being an awesomely wonderful bass.

I did find your thread about ash/maple Jazz basses. Do you still have your AC? I had an early one which was not refined as the stuff they have now. Almost 5 years has past since you posted that thread and I'm curious your thoughts about the three basses you had back then in comparison to the jazz basses you currently have ?

I think the Jazz bass is the perfect bass, period. Thanks to Mr. Fender :)

Yes. Wonderful bass! Bought it new from the Sadowsky 'in stock page' in 2008 (I think) and played it regularly for a few years. Only reason I sold it was a 'thinning the herd' sort of thing, and my move toward gigging a P more than a J.

I used that bass in many of my demonstration video's when I had my Youtube channel up and running, so it became quite well known on the TB community a while back!

MV5 all the way.

The UV has the 70's style bridge PU location which is 1/2 inch further back towards the bridge. This thins out the "meat" of the bridge pickup, yielding more sizzle and harmonic content, less fundimental.

Neck shape is very similar - tone differences are not.

I would go with an MV5 with single coils. It's the tone your describing.

That's why I wear the bass at such a high angle. :hmm:
Edit: I tried lowering the angle but then the stretch to play strains my arm a bit and it does not feel like a natural angle. The strap actually does not bother my neck at all, it's just the collar bone. Wearing a big bulky sweatshirt helps!

I cut out the nylon webbing in between the padding of the strap and the fob that attaches to the upper bout strap button. I sewed the fob directly to the padding. This moves the wider part of the strap's padding over my shoulder. Before, the nylon webbing would rest against the front of my shoulder, and didn't do much in terms of padding.

I own 5956. I bought her off the rack when I was visiting the Sadowsky shop last year. I had a custom build on order that we were just finishing the deets on, but I was swept away by 5956. It spoke to me when I played it, and still does:hyper:. Love the sound of the bass, plays like butter, and looks fantastic.
