I have a question for Mr. Sadowsky.
I just recently bought a NYC jazz bass
(is proper grammar "an NYC jazz bass?).
I bought it from the showroom brand new.
Can I leave the protective covering
over the pickups and back on FOREVER?
Or should I take it off at some point?
(I don't mind it being on, it doesn't bother
me.) (And when it wears out, can I get it
re-applied?)

I know some folks have gotten LED markers on their Sads. I have a Lull T-Bird that has tiny side dots that are very hard to see on stage. I know their is SIMS, but I'd have to ship the neck to England. Does anyone know who does the work for Sadowsky or if a place in the states does it?

This is OT for THIS thread, but maybe Luminlays would be sufficient? If so, I would think Mike himself could do those for you. Maybe check that out with him?

My '05 Sadowsky P5 also has tiny side dots, but props to Roger and co. for increasing the size, I am happy that my newer Sadowskys have larger dots. Fran answered your question about LED's. I'll just mention a far less expensive solution: stick on LED strips.

I saw that Lizzy D. had them on her Sadowsky J5, and when I inquired she recommended them, so I got a strip. I've had it on one of my Sadowskys for over a year and it has worked well.

The description at the website is accurate. It was a little tricky to install, but thorough, detailed instructions are included. Yes, they add a narrow bump along the top edge of the neck, but that's not even a problem for a guy like me who uses the "monkey grip" (thumb-over) for easy grooves. I've only had a couple of minor issues. First is that I have to wiggle the battery to get brightest LED response. The vendor suggested adjusting the battery holder set screws but I had no luck. The second is that the strip can become very slightly detached at the headstock end -- probably because I use a hanging stand -- but this is no big deal, I can press it back into place.

Obviously the FretFx strip is a far inferior solution to Sims LEDs, but it's also far cheaper. I might get a couple more.



I suppose an even better solution would be to never ever look down under any circumstances -- phthtt, whatever. :spit: :smug:

I've had this done on all my Sadowsky basses (vision issues in the dark), by Sims UK. I did two of them myself, w/ help, and one was done during the build. The process is fairly painless and the turnaround time was 10- 14 days. PM me if you're interested in pic's and details.

Just want to "bump" this back to the collective. I'm interested advice on this too. To be honest I just haven't thought that much about the clear strips that came on my bass... They're still there. :eyebrow:

I've had my HPJ for almost a year and the protective plastic is still in almost new shape, I'd leave it on, its good stuff. If it gets too messed up (torn or something) you can probably send it back to them to have some new ones put on. They'll even inspect it and set it back up for you too... of course all of this will be a nominal fee but you get what you pay for. :)
