Club Sadowsky!!!

Argh! I just did something really stupid to my Metro HPJ-4. I was trying to remove the knob from the VTC control and accidentally ripped out the VTC pot post from the push/pull potentiometer. I was trying to install a set of P knobs that the shop recommended, but the Sadowsky knobs seem epoxied in place!

Now, I need a new push/pull pot.

Folks...don't try this at home. For rizzle.

You have to make sure that you back off BOTH set screws on the black Sadowsky knobs when removing them. It's easy to miss that if you aren't aware that there are 2.

But did you loosen the screws before you pull the knob? The knobs have to come out easily.

working and knowing that your Sadowsky is sitting in a box waiting for you at home

This by far is the best NBD eva ! not to take away from my other basses which has their cool respected NBD's, but being my first custom build - yowwzzerrss!!!

The customer service and craftmanship of Roger and Co. is superb. The build itself is flawless and the pictures i got from Kevin do not really give it justice.

Anyone baulking at the idea of getting a custom build with Roger, should just take the jump! Great instrument with equal customer service to match!!!

I didn't get much evaluating time since the misses wanted to go out to eat dinner when i got home from work, so i was only able to unpack and play her for a bit. Needless to say, I took the bass to work this morning hoping to get more acquainted with her during my breaks and lunch (who needs to eat!!!)

First impression was yowwwzzerrss. Most basses i have own/owned as well has been on the heavier side, so this bass being so light, i feel like Hercules. Neck and setup is unbelieveable - when i first gripped the neck it was so comfortable and fretting was easy and smooth. I didn't get a chance to test out the tone too much since it was already late by the time i got home and I didn't want to disturb my tenants.

Congratulations! I'm counting hoping to get word that my build will be ready this month. Seeing posts like this makes the wait seem harder and easier at the same time. Guess I can break more pots in the meantime. :-(

+1 on both. I know it's not posible, but if it were, I'd send the neck on my PJ for same roast treatment.

i've shut off the lights in my office, but i can't get it completely dark since i have a two windows in my office with no blinds.....

i think you'll get the jist though. so far....very very unproductive day here at work and i've been here for two hours and done nothing

I had a Modern 24 for years.... I had an early one from 1993 or so... One of the best basses that i ever owned... And it was lightweight! I love that. I did not have any issues at all when used for slap.. But it is 2013 now, i sort of think slap has had its day.... except for Marcus M .. He does it right.. IMO..

The way the 24 fret neck sets to the body made it feel weird to me when in standing position.. The top horn goes to the 12 fret as usual.. but for some reason to play the Low "C" on the B string felt awkward and un comfy as compared to the 21 fret version... which to me felt more comfy.. And im not a short person. im 6"1"
But i wish i never sold that Modern 24... I loved the deep neck profile on mine which is different now...
I would certainly get another one some day... In fact i was thinking of selling my nyc pj5 to get one...
I LOVE the newer Sadowsky (possibly Duncans now) Soap Bars over the older EMGs that originally came in my Modern 24. But Roger swapped my EMGs out as i demoed the newer Duncan styles back then.. maybe 1996 or so... His new Soap Bars are very wide sounding and punchy with no hum... Spectacular !!
With a little use of the VTC yo can sort of get a PJ5 sound from the bass.. But a little tighter i feel than a real PJ5.

My NYC PJ5 has teh Universal route that i requested when i ordered it so i could flip the P if i wanted.. So i ordered two PGs ... At this time mine is set in Rev P... Last year it s in Regular P.... I think the Rev P give the "G" string more thickness... Some people like that and some don't... Victor Broden also has his PJ5 in Rev P last time i saw it... and it sounds great....

Like i said the only thing that i felt uncomfy with the Modern 24 was in standing position .. the neck felt an extra 2" longer or so and made me twist my wrist in a way that does not happen with my 21 fret NYC.... So i sold my 24....

Benn thinking of ordering up a Sadowsky here soon. I'm not one for having a ton of basses around. Really, I would just like to have two basses that I really love. Right now I have Ken Lawrence, which I absolutely will never part with, a Nordy and a Skjold Gen 5. As much as I like the other basses, neither has been the perfect "other" bass I have been looking for. So, I'm thinking that maybe it's time to try a Sadowsky and see how that sits with me. I'm thinking Modern 24 with a P/J setup, with the reverse P layout. I really like the modern 24 body style, as I'm really not much of what you would call a traditional Fender fan. Roger had mentioned that this leaves very little slapping room between the end of the neck and the pick up on the D & G strings. Anyone have this layout and can comment on the slapability? Not that I'm a slapper by any means, but it's nice to have the option.

I want a bass where I don't feel like the D & G strings don't sound thin to me when I play with a pick. So far, the only basses I have ever encountered that don't feel this way with my technique, are either reverse P layouts, or the basses where the front jazz pick up is angled towards the neck under the D & G, like some of the Warwicks. Seems like my only option with a Sadowsky would be the reverse P, so I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this pick up layout on the modern 24 body.
